Purchased 2 red tops and need to install them. I have a couple questions.

I am assuming that I should mount the cables the same as the stock ones, so that means on the side. How do they mount on the side? Will the stock bolt fit in the whole on the side of the optima? Does that make sense? If not is there a part number that is needed or does the battery cables need to be changed to fit the battery?

Second question. If I use the side mounts what should be done with the two posts at the top of the battery. Do I just keep the plastic covers that are on them or can they be removed.

Sorry if this is under the wrong topic.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Leave the cap where they are, no problem.

The stock cables will bolt right in, standard SAE/GM connections.

Good luck.

Do one battery at a time so all of the memory functions will stay intact.

Do one at a time, WATCH the positive cable when swapping, it will be LIVE on the other battery! Passenger side is a straight in & out, driver's side will require popping off the little brace rod at an angle over the corner of the battery before the swap and replacing it afterwards. Just leave the top posts covered and discard the lifting handles.

I put some silicon around the pull tab of the top post covers to help keep them in place. I also put shrink tube on the angle bracket that runs over the positive post on the drivers side to make me feel better. As said watch the positive cables when you remove them - I wrapped mine with a rag while I changed out the battery. It kind of a snug fit as you have to angle the batteries in and out so just take your time and don't rush
