i have a 2008 duramax with about 21000 miles on it. i have had the coolant level low light come on about 4 or 5 times in the 2 years that i have owned the truck. i always just add more coolant mix to the tank. is this normal? where is the coolant going? everything else about the truck has been perfect. thanks

No that's not normal. Some have issues with the low coolant light coming on when the level is fine, but it's an ECM issue. If you are having to add coolant, I'd check for an EGR leak first. Take it in to a dealer and have them look at it. Search EGR leak, see what you come up with. Chris

My 2007.5 was doing the same. Took it to 4 dealers before "I discovered" that there was a service bulletin out on it and it was the EGR Cooler leaking into the engine.

will this damage the engine in any way? i have the truck tuned with efi live, so the egr is supposed to be disabled on it. does anyone have the particular bulletin for the egr leak so that i can show it to the service department?
thanks

thanksI am told that it can. Another tell-tell sign is if you are getting a occasional puff of white smoke. Sorry I can't find the TSB but your dealer can upon a search.

There have been leaking water pump gaskets, mine was replaced a year ago, coolant loss stopped. Check your front skid plate - if it's got orange fluid on top that's your leak.
