drop your tank and wash it out. best way is steam. or real hot water, like a car wash. then slosh some methonal in it to absorb moisture

If you do add an algaecide expect a few more filter changes cause it doesn't get rid of the algae it just kills them.

do you get your fuel from same place, or majority for the last year. you more than likely picked up some water and bugs, the bugs are normally black when dead, but may be reddish-brown(rusty mud). might think about putting coarse screen/filter in line to lift pump outside tank(easy to clean/replace). need to drop tank and clean, i have used electric fuel pump to recirc fuel tank, added couple gallons of gas to act as solvent. pull fuel thru filter(will need spare cheap metal car filters to catch junk) to pump. you can pump to jugs/container to check, if clean you can treat with some kind of biocide and recirc thru micron filter to catch bugs. ive done this on boats that owner didn't want to get rid of fuel, didn't mind time to recirc thou.

I used a Holley glass inline fuel filter on my burb pre lift pump because I had to remove the factory tank screen with my aftermarket fuel pickup. I used glass so I could see if there is air or crap in the line. So far so good.
