my buddy has a 85 GMC sierra 2500 6.2L and he replaced all the fuel lines becuase the were all rotted and got new intake manifold gaskets and a new fuel filter and now it wont stay running. we can get it started buy dumping fuel right through the intake and it will stay running if we stay on the throttle but as soon as we get off it it dies. this is his only form of transportation to get to and from school so he sorta needs it running asap. thanks in advance guys.

maybe still air in the system how long has it run?? or could be sucking air in a loose fuel line connection

Dumping fuel in the intake is a very risky thing to do. Fuel doesn't compress, and can blow the head gasket.

Don't put fuel into the intake. I can't remember how but you can ruin your engine.

wont so much blow a headgasket as it will crack the head, bend rods, and other fun stuff. sounds like its just air.

Site glass it first. Diagnos first, then change parts....Less ya got alot of cash to spend...If ya do I could use some...:D

humm must be a real good mechanic..if he can diagnose without seeing the truck or making a few tests...alot better than i am..that would be the last thing i tried ..the ip is not just a screw off screw on type of thing..

Exactly....What's 2 feet of clear tubing and a few hose clamps cost about 5$ ?? I'd try that first...Many IP's have been changed for no reason. Look at my Dead Burb thread... Everything pointed to a bad rebuild on the IP and I probably would have fell to that except I know the builder and he doesn't build junk. In the end it was 3 separate problems that developed all at once. Whenever a diesel is not running right checking the fuel for air is the first thing to do(assuming you have fuel coming in of course..)

x2 on what Aces said. Air in the lines seems to be the #1 problem. Symptoms are anything to no start (hell of an air leak) to rough idle to surging to low power. In other words almost any symptom that a bad IP has. It seems espescially from those with mech lift pumps and box filters. but they can develop anywhere.
