Just wondering if anyone has found a better tranny oil then GM or is it not
necessary.

The factory oil is really good stuff. I wouldn't change it until it has alot of miles on it.

Lots of guys use Transynd synthetic from Allison. Highly recommended.

No reason to change it in most cases until at least 20K or so miles if you change the spin on every 10K or so. That's what I basically did.

Transynd synthetic from Allison does keep your tranny cooler if you pull or climb hill/mountains - that's a fact.

I also use Transynd ... Also have the Mag-Hytec trans pan... It does help a lot if you are towing.........Triffid

I started using Torque drive from Amsoil, it's cheaper than transynd.
Transynd from the dealers is outrageous around here, cheapest I could find $67 a gallon.
Im switching all my fluids over to Amsoil, it's American made, better than supporting the middle east.

Does Allison approve Amsoil?

I Like mobil 1....but if your not working the crap outa your trans and or getting it hot a regular dino is fine IMO. Plus with the drain plug its easy to drain the pan periodicly and refill the pan to get part of the old out and part new in.

I also am using mobil 1. It was way cheaper than going with the transynd, and yes you can use amsoil, it has all the approvals.

Synthetic fluid is the best. The fluids most trans shops use is a Dexron 3/Mercon blend. This fluid used to cover most applications in my business but is slowly covering less applications. The blends that we buy are becoming more synthetic with every blend change mainly because of more electronics. Valves used to be made out of metal and now are made of plastic because they are lighter and more responsive to solenoid actuation. Synthetic fluid may or may not show fluid temp drop to the gauge as we see it but it greatly protects and lubricates parts much better under extreme heat. " Kick it up a notch"- Emerald. There have been no publisized trans fluid comparos that I have seen. Transgo did a fluid boil test and found the old Amsoil took longer to boil, TranSynd came in second and Mobil 1 third. There was not much difference in boil points. Does this test reveal anythig? No. I would bet that you could find some no name junk fluid that might beat the big boys in this test but fail misserably lubricating your Ally.

I'm switching over to Transynd. Allison regoinal rep suggested doing in two changes approximately 15 K apart. Transysnd mixes well with Dextron III. After two changes will have approximately 95% Transynd in tranny. Allison does not recommend flushing tranny.

I paid $33 a gallon yesterday ):h I understand thats pretty chaep.

If you want transynd or anything else for the ally , go to Alison , not GM. I got the same price last year

That where I purchased it.

Filters are half the price of what GM wants, they just take it out of the Allison box, put it in a GMAC box and double the price.

When I installed the Mag-Hytec trans pan, I filled it with Mobil 1.
But to tell you the truth I don't kow what's in it now.:confuzeld Mike L did the SCIII install for me and I forgot to ask. Anyway, I fill a new spin on with Mobil 1 every 5K.

I changed out my Alli to M1 at 15K and again at 30K. After the second change I noticed the trans running a little cooler )10-15 degrees) in stop and go summer driving as well as when towing. Now at 60K and changing again. I have changed the spin-on every 10K miles. Very happy with M1, trans has performed consistently throughout.

Lots of guys use Transynd synthetic from Allison. Highly recommended.

I did some research. Allison recommends TES-295 rated synthetic ATF. Transynd, Mobil Delvac Syn ATF, Fleetrite Syn ATF, Emguard 2805 and Autran Syn 295. Transynd at the Allison dealer is $40.80 a gal.

Transynd is made by Castrol. BP is the parent company of Castrol which makes Autran Syn 295. Autran Syn 295 costs $25.00 a gal (in 5 gal min. order) I'm guessing BP has got the same stuff cheaper.
