I bought a 6.2 from the gov. I got it home and tore into to see if there were any big problems. The only thing I found was #5 glow plug broke off and the piston top is all dinged up. Should I replace this piston or all of the pistons? The engine has had a rebuild from the looks of the rods and cylinder bores still have hone marks. So if i need to change the pistons out and i did not do the rebuild how do i tell the size the pistons are? The part # on the piston does not pull up the size. would a machine shop be able help?

how dinged up is it? if theres maybe a small scar in it i wouldnt think that would cause harm. cant you just order in a 6.2L diesel piston?

put pics on a host site like photobucket..
stock pistons have letter sizes stamped on them a,b,c.d. most oversizes have numbers like .50, .75 etc

i found a C on the top of the piston. So that means a stock piston right?

Would not replace it unless you see a visible crack in it, this is a common thing in IDI motors..... :D
One more result of lack of glow plug maintenance..... should be taken out and verified twice yearly (spring and fall)....:)
