Are these trucks safe with the stock exhaust and a strong EFI tune. I'm working on a tune that just safe for the stock allison but my concern now is i still have stock exhaust. Thanks!

as long as you aren't towing heavy i don't think you'll run into a problem. if you straight pipe it (remove Cat & Muffler) then you will for sure have no problems. but if you are going to tow AND have a "higher" tune then yes you'll begin to overheat easier.

Gauges?

The only way that I would feel comfortable running stock exhaust is with an EGT gauge. Things could get hot quick with a tune.

With a strong EFI Live tune? Nope. Even with gauges, the likelihood is you'll just watch yourself toast your turbo. Bad idea. Just break down and get the exhaust. Also, keep in mind that you're gonna have to build your tranny with a strong EFI Live tune too...

Thanks for the advice I had about a 100hp tune on it but I backed it down probably running less than 60hp now. Just something for economy mainly. Either way I wasn't going to push my allison.

I'm up in the air about my exhaust I've got my LS1 now that's loud I like to not go deaf in my DD though but I'll probably end up strait piping it lol.

IMO a 4" exhaust is a good improvement over stock and a good investment for these trucks even if they are stock. My system is pretty mild in the noise department, even with no cat.

I have the 5 inch turbo back by mbrp, and the sound is nothing like a gasser with a straight pipe, the turbo basically is a muffler so the sound isn't too loud. I can barely hear it when i am cruising around, but when you get on it, you'll hear it ;)

Guages, delete cat and muffler, and you'll be fine! Now I've seen alot of people leave the stock exhaust on and run programmer's with a stock truck and never have a problem.

Even my dual 4" Magnaflow is not much louder than stock while cruising. The highway drone is also less annoying than the stock setup. Just a good rumble when you get on it. It is my DD too.

Hello qulinhunter,

I think your dual 4" Magnaflow is working good. That is why it is not annoying.
I hope I can get on it.

I agree and it's exactly what I wanted. I spend too much time in it to make it any louder. I can be loud and obnoxious when I want to be and reasonable the rest of the time.

Apparently outside the truck it's much louder though. I was going thru a subdivision the other evening and an old man (like 80+ with cotton in his ears) heard me take off from a turn and stopped and turned around quickly to look at me thinking he was about to get hit and I was a block and a half away. Then he smiled and waved as I went by.
