Got some questions comptemplating going to an LB7 03 from my 05 LLY. 03 has 140,000 on it. I have done injector tip replacements in an 02 Cummins I had, just wondering is the injector replacement something a guy can tackle at home and how much in tools do I need. This is probably been asked before so shame on me for asking if it has. Thanks all!

From the DIY section, you can find this.
It is doable, if you are mechanically inclined.

I believe the injector replacement on a LB7 is quite a bit more difficult than the Cummins. The LB7 is the most difficult of the Duramax line, and had the most problems with the injectors...

It is more difficult to replace injectors on the LB7, but it is in my opinion only due to all of the disassembly and reassembly involved. If you have all the parts, it can be done in a day. Keep in mind I'm talking about injector replacement, not tip replacement, that is a whole other animal.

The LB7 has its injectors inside the valve covers, the Cummins injectors are alot easier to replace. (Plus LB7 injectors cost alot more)

Probably asked alot what is price range on injectors for a DIYer? Also are than aftermarkert shops that sell bulletproof stuff? Not afraid to bump it up a little.;)

Check with the guy and the current injectors were replaced at 98,000 all 8 and currently has 140,000. I realize it is pretty much a crap shoot just like a VP44 on a D-DGE!

Injectors will cost you anywhere from $2,400 to $2,800 at the dealer, to as low as $1,200 elsewhere.

And it is not hard, just takes time!

i have done 4 injector jobs on a LB7 and like everyone else is saying, its not hard, just time comsuming. plus, since ur injectors where replaced not long ago, that means that they wont be a pain in the butt trying to get out. i had one pull the injector bore out with it...now THAT was fun...

Looking at doing a transmission and some other mods, just don't want my total investment to be mind boggeling! Plus looking and a Goat and green tractor!:drinking:Money ain't flowing like it was so better safe than bread and water!

You could do a transmisson yourself for about the same price as an injector job. With the LB7's though theres no telling how many times you'll have to do it. But hey, its your money.

My injectors were done at 98k then 146k now have 176k on the truck.
