: Oh Lord, now What?
Mitchagain 07-05-2005, 07:33 PM Wife & I are out in BFE, enjoying a long deserved vacation with the horses and catching fish. Max temp is 78 coolest in the low 40's. Elk everywhere & fishing is great (Caught about 50 in 3 hours at Reservation Lake one day), nary a cloud in the sky. The wine was cool, the beer was cold, the flies were minimal, and the stars were terrific. What few people we met were horse people or fishers. What's wrong with this picture, I kept asking myself?
Then it happened - - - Injectors? no. Water pump? no. Fuel pump? no. Tranny or NBSU failure? No. The last thing I would ever have thought ---- Low Washer Fluid warning!! I am just beside myself! What the devil is a guy to do? I mean with all the failures that these Duramax's are famous for, and now this! I swear, I am ready to just bag it all & fetch another tall cool one so I can clear my mind for the next step.
AND IT JUST GETS WORSE!
Got home last night about midnight. Filled up this morning and discovered that after the trip home pullin 14,500# plus down from NE Arizona I only got 10.2 MPG. I swear I am thinking of going back to the 454 & the 5 speed tranny! LIKE HELL! ):h
kaiserrw 07-05-2005, 10:59 PM You're Killing Me !
2loud 07-05-2005, 11:04 PM Had a similar emergency. Used the ice water keeping the beer cold for washer fluid.
It was an afternoon project....................
ddp127 07-05-2005, 11:14 PM Hahaha, Excellent!!! I had a similar experience with my old LHS. I was making the drive back out to school, I was at home, and it was snowing. Well I'm on the interstate and I needed to use the wiper fluid pretty often. I didn't check or fill it before I left. Well, wouldn't you know I ran out. In the snow, on the interstate, with crap all on the windshield. I pulled into the rest area to add some, THEN the washer fluid light came on. WTF???
Stupid Dod...I mean Chrysler.
Have a good one!!
Dan
akdiesel 07-06-2005, 12:40 AM That is a good one.
Buy a Dodge. They have unlimited pisser fluid.):h
I will have to add the other day I got in my truck and not a damn thing went wrong with mine. What is the matter with my truck?
MrsSpoolin 07-06-2005, 01:50 AM Ugh, we had the same thing happen on the way to Fairbanks. Had to pay $3.89 for a gallon.
BH in AZ 07-06-2005, 02:49 AM Low washer fluid! I'd sell it. Before you know it, you will need to put air in the tires.
(Coming back from Springerville to Tempe via the Payson route, I got 13.0 MPG with a 6,800 lb conventional travel trailer (LLY engine, 60-65mph).
Now, what does "BFE" stand for?????
deadfurrow 07-06-2005, 02:55 AM Now, what does "BFE" stand for?????
Bum Censored Egypt.):h
Reineke 07-06-2005, 03:35 AM LOL! This is great! I hope mine never runs low on washer fluid! The dealer will hear from me!
Jperry 07-06-2005, 08:05 AM Seems GM has let us down or something here with this wiper fluid problem. Makes me wonder why they can't catch the condensation from the AC or something.
SSNIGHTMARE 07-06-2005, 09:34 AM Had a similar emergency. Used the ice water keeping the beer cold for washer fluid.
It was an afternoon project....................
You let the beer get warm? Thats alcohol abuse.):h
Crawler Hauler 07-06-2005, 10:19 AM I just had the same thing happen in South Dakota this weekend! Same low washer light symptoms you got. Here we go again, another injector or fly wheel fiasco.....
Mitchagain 07-06-2005, 07:05 PM I know that I have almost reached the limits of my patience! And what's worse? Yesterday I washed the truck and still it tells me Low Washer Fluid. Makes me mad enough to spit! All washed up and no Washer Fluid. I am beginning to think someone is stealing the damn stuff! I am gonna stay up late tonight, sitting in the dark and see if I can catch the S.O.B. fooling with my Washer Fluid. Humpf, of all the problems we have with these Duramax's and now this. We may have to start a whole new Thread Site for it.
MrsSpoolin 07-06-2005, 07:29 PM I think there needs to be a TSB about it, maybe a recall.
arguy 07-06-2005, 07:49 PM I think I had this happen to me - my thirteen year old saw it and fixed it before I could react. Dam kids now a-day, they are so computer savy!
BullydogPowered 07-06-2005, 08:01 PM if my truck runs out of fuel one more time im gonna sell it):h
I could tell you what it stands for but, oh well here it is anyway you can figure out the letter F B - Bum F- E- Egypt....at least that's what it means here...I think maybe only us older and wiser guys use that term...
MaxRock 07-07-2005, 10:55 AM It is good to see a humorous post...great job. After 3.5 years of owning my truck, I cannot keep that silly grin off of my face!!! :D
MaxRock
RideRed 07-07-2005, 01:12 PM Ok, now who knows what this stands for? The little old lady at the license bureau didn't have a clue when I applied for it:

SS396 07-07-2005, 02:40 PM Isn't the low washer fluid a safety issue. Shouldn't it be reported to the NHTSA.
cdhd2001 07-07-2005, 04:52 PM I tell you whats worse! A broken windshield! I think I will pull a "hoot" and go buy a cummins. Certainly their windshields don't break when a rock hits it!:blahblah:
Timberwolf530 07-07-2005, 09:23 PM Just rig up a 55 gal drum in the bed for the washer fluid. You can't afford to take that chance of getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere with dirty windows.
Tomslick24 07-08-2005, 10:56 AM I am due for wiper blades.I swear if they even give one hint of streaking...Truck is gone:mad:
coalbucket1 07-08-2005, 12:11 PM I think I will pull a "hoot" and go buy a cummins. Certainly their windshields don't break when a rock hits it!:blahblah:[/quote]

Trader.:joke: Here I thought you loved your Duramax like me!!
DavesDmax 07-08-2005, 06:00 PM Ya kill me! ):h
That is the only warning I've ever had. The tank darn near took a gallon. You think they could make it a hair bigger so when the fluid message comes on, you can just dump a gallon in and call it a day. NO!, it has to be something like 120 oz's instead of 128... ):h
I hear ya Mitchagain!
You would think that pulling a trailer that would crush a normal truck, you could get at least 12mpg. ):h
Speedstertwin 07-08-2005, 09:35 PM Oh....you poor guys....4 dollars of washer fluid and youre crying-- I have $400 worth if bald tires on the rear of this truck. Apparently the spring perches were welded in incorrectly and the mis-alignment has subjected my rears to excessive wear. What has the world come to when you cant even keep tires on the back of a 7500# pickup?
TheBac 07-08-2005, 09:59 PM Wide-Fing-open?
I second that!
Mitch...this is funny! Thanks for the good laugh!
Tom :ro)
Mitchagain 07-09-2005, 02:50 AM You guys seem to miss the seriousness of the issue here! My god man, I mean after all the upgrades that I have invested in, all the posts of tremendous expenditures in repairs, not to mention downtime, and the continual warnings of catastropic breakdowns, I can see no glimmer of hope for the future!
Obviously, this Low Fluid Level is a harbinger of catastrophies to come. I can see it all now..... flat tires, a rattle in the dash, a squeek under the rear seat, a seat belt that won't retract, and my worst fear here in AZ - the rear window defroster that suddenly gives up the ghost! -:t Jeez, this expensive bucket of bolts is just about to cause me sleepless nights, or worse, cause me to drink alcoholic beverages BEFORE happy hour!
Why just today, I noticed that one of the DLRL has quit.... I am just sick about it. Friends are saying "yep, here comes ole 'one eye'"... My credibility is shot. :o: My confidence is at an all time low. I had a dream that the Low Fuel light came on - I woke up in a cold sweat! Censored
Here I am, a broken man with a heavy heart. Woe is me. I am almost afraid to look under the hood, what if I need to replace an airfilter? do I stay with the OEM type? UNI? K&N? Oiled foam or 'unknown' paper? If I had only known ahead of time that owning a Duramax diesel would be such a trial on my mind, heart, & pocketbook, i probably would have stayed with the '96 454 with the 5 speed gearbox..... :bawl:
NOT!

Duramax Dually 07-11-2005, 07:02 PM Well.....I think I have come to the end of my road with my truck also...Mine wasn't all the above mentioned stuff. Good Grief...I got through all of them and the rumors and towing trailers for at least 80K of the 110K miles...But now the KEY FOB quit...YEP that's right...My Duramax Motor outlasted my KEY FOB...Who would have ever thunk that. So I am looking to get out now...I had to pull out my back up FOB and am not ready to have to buy a new one...SO time to SELL....BAWAHAHAHAHAHA
