: Wacky Attitude EGT readings . . .

I installed a secondary EGT probe on my truck soley for the edge/attitude backdown and I'm getting some wacky EGT readings.

The primary EGT probe (autometer) is in the pass. side manifold. The Edge probe, I placed in the "frontpipe" just where it comes out off the bottom/back of the motor. I did this because it was simple to get to and I didn't think it would have too much of an effect . . . . BUT . . . the idle and low-throttle/rpm reading between the Edge and autometer are pretty similar, but when I'm on the throttle, or even cruising with some decent rpm the Edge readings are super-low. At WOT I am seeing 1400-ish on the Autometer (with predator 40+Edge 2/4) but never over 850* on the Edge. Is this because of location of the second probe OR (get this) because I had to extend the thermocouple on the Edge probe about 18" and used normal old 16ga wire out of my electrical box. OR am I completely goofy and it's something else completely. HELP!!

Thanks!!

I tried a dual pyro set up and also never got above 1000 to 1100 degrees in the down pipe but in the exaust manifold I could peg 1400 all day both readings were from a predetor at 85 hp , it realy does make a big difference between the two locations, almost as much as reading boost in the wastgate line or at the manifold which is the true reading.

Hmmmm . . . so if I want similar reading between the two I probably need to stick the Edge probe in the D.S. manifold??

there is room its just a little tighter , and I believe the flatest spot is on the bottem side, I havent looked in a while , Im just back to one in the manifold(PS)

Yah, I've heard it is tight as well and I only have a bulky cordless drill. I'll crawl under there and have a look-see, but I may have to postpone that project until another SoCal member with smaller hands (or power tools) and a lust for beer and pizza takes pity on me.

^^^shameless bribery ploy :D

You need a small angle drill, or a dremmell with a drill bit

You could just get this attachment for your regular drill at Sears for $15.

Thermocouples use special wire. So that is part of the problem. Even the two leads on a thermocouple are different from each other so you have to make sure they are clor coded the same too. To get thermocouple wire you need to know if you have a S type, or a K type or any other type. All use different wire.

I was aware they used a "special" wire (and I have a k-type) but I was having a rally hard time finding any either locally or in less than 50' lengths. Edge uses two ring connectors bolted together to connect the probe to the box, so I kinda had a hard time believing that 18" of "the wrong wire" was going to make much a resistance differance. . . . maybe it does. Regardless, if I move the probe from the DP to the DS manifold, I won't need the extension anymore, which should kill both issues.
