I HAVE A 2008 2500HD DIESEL SOO I WAS RIDING WITH MY ATV IN THE BED OUT TO THE WOODS... WHEN I GOT THERE AND UNLOADED THE ATV AND PUT UP THE TAILGATE I COULDNT BELIEVE WHAT I SAW BETTER YET WHAT I DIDNT SEE... SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME FIND THIS PART...:/ HAS THIS EVER HAPPEN TO ANYONE. BTW I HAVE TO HAVE THE TAILGATE DOWN WHEN I RIDE WITH THE ATV..... WHAT HAPPEN TO CHEVY ARE THERE PARTS GETTING THIS CHEAP!!:mad:

Have You Inquired Wether Or Not It Is Covered Under Warranty??? That Would Be The First Thing I Would Try (don't Know The In Service Date Or Miles On Your Outfit...just Thought It May Lead You Somewhere)

that happens all the time with the chevys and gmc. i just replaced mine recently. the plastic trim piece can be found at checker, napa etc. and is cheap. if the latch itself is broken then there is a small plastic piece that you will need that can be found at the dealer for a couple bucks. real easy and cheap fix.

i dont know about the key slot. mine does not have it. im sure you can rig up something in there to keep it more secure. i just never worried about it. my truck has over 200K on it and it has only happened once. maybe $5 for a new one.

Like suggested my vote, would try warranty. If not get the parts from GM dealer as the lock is set to the first key that is put into the slot.
A friend of mines bezel came out and I think his body is a GMT 800 and it is held in place with double sided tape.
At least that was what was on the part when I got it at the dealership for him.
My guess that is how ours is held in place as well.

btw does anyone know what that piece is called lol cause i dont have much luck finding it when i call around does it have a specific name or just trimming insert for tailgate handle????

thanks a lot guys ill give it a shot.... sorry to bother yall soo much i guess these new chevys aint made to go in the woods and rough terrain anymore.... cause i got dents scratches from the stupidest things... and every time i go over a lot of bumps my fluid sensor levels go crazy. i thought geting a new truck will be less problems and actually its been more... i miss my 94 chevy 2500 454 v8 6mpg but really built like a rock!!!:)

alrighty i guess the search is over i found the bezel on ebay for $19.95 free shipping...:) i bought it with the key hole but i guess theres no way around the dealer for that keylock.... o well when i could afford it ill get it... btw thanks soo much guys for all the great inputs. diesel place rocks!!!
