My transmission in my 02 2500HD 8.1, was running about 200 towing my boat a couple weeks ago. Yesterday I installed a OEM Allison Deep Pan, Filter, and filter lock. Went and drove it and it ran at about 175 empty. Only 60 degrees out. Just curious where the fluid level should be? At that temp it was at the top of the "cold" mark. Will a little bit more fluid cool it? Just not real sure where to fill it to. Thanks for any info. Using mobil 1 dex III, mainly because I have 10 gallons of it and cost.

pan adds 3 qts. Usually a cooler from MIkeL. does a better job cooling one. But I went the route you did, lowered my temps a little more than that.

Any idea on level? How much are coolers and difficulty to install?

At 175, with the deep pan, your fluid can be at the bottom of the hot hash marks. With the standard pan, it should be 1/4 up the hot hash marks at 175. Too much fluid puts the fluid in contact with the moving parts and results in additional heat transfer. The problem is not to little fluid but too much. Check your fluid at 175. BTW, others have recently reported that Mike L does not have coolers available. If you can get one, however, they are very high quality stuff. Somewhere on DP I have posted instructions on the installation — it's very easy.

Suncoast may have some.

Will look into a cooler. Is the 175 normal for 60 degree weather, empty? Just worried about 90 degrees and towing an 26 foot enclosed with a race car.

Would putting the Transynd in it cool it down a bunch? Just hate to waste all of the fluid I just put in, but a transmission is worth it. Just seems to run around 180 normal driving, seems high to me, but maybe it's normal.

Transynd won't make it run cooler, but the correct fluid level may. Other things, too, affect trans temp, especially the driving you are doing. Cooler lines can also become restricted. Unless you have a very large boat and were towing it on some very steep terrain, not much change in temperature should be noted. But towing it very slowly in traffic or on a steep grade will push the temp up.

Normal terrain. 18 foot boat. Cruise at 85. Maybe speed effected that. I have had others tell me their gauge rarely moves off of 100 around town. Just not sure if 180 is normal with 60 degree weather empty. Thanks for the response to.
