Hi Guys,

I have a '95 Tahoe and a '99 Burb. I note that the specs on the '99 burb say 199 HP and 400 ft-lbs of torque, whereas the numbers for the Tahoe are 180 HP and 360 ft-lbs of torque. What changes did GM make to increase the numbers? Does anyone know?

Sincerely,

Rob

Compare the VINs. '95 is probably "S", '99 is probably "F". "S" is the 'soot' engine or light duty (L56); "F" is the 'fast' engine typically found in the 2500 series (L65). It's safe to say that minus the smog stuff, any engine should produce more.

65 is probably more close to correct, but i like my answer more.:D

All the Tahoe/Blazers are 1500s and if they're diesel they have the L56.

Also, 94-95 models are first gen OBDI ECM. Performance increase is mostly made there in the 96+ and again in 98+ models.

Either get a '95 HD PROM or a '94 HD and a 5068 pump and you'll be done with your EGR days :)

Pre-cups are sized to engine application, as well - na, S, F.

Factory blurb indicated late heads had redesigned water passages to handle increased thermal output.
