Well found out today that it really doesn't work. Never had an issue with it before.
Whats happening is when I just barely touch the brakes it starts engaging that brakes on the trailer but if I move the pedel in more it stop and the number indicator goes blank as if I wasn't touching brakes. But if I squeeze it by hand it has no problem going up all the way and doesn't turn off. Anyone have this issue in the past?

Check the stoplight switch. Make sure it is putting out 12v to the red wire on the controller as yiu press down harder on the brake pedal. Just use a test light. I have seen the brakelight switch go bad. What brand is the brake controller?

I'll check voltage tomorrow when I get to my apartment. The controller is a Drawtite activator 2. Bought it few years ago and just never really seen the need to upgrade.

I have had brake controllers fail in the past...could just be a bad controller.? FWIW I love my Prodigy brake controller.

But wouldn't a bad controller not work either way? Cause like I stated I can press it to get the trailer brakes to work. Thinking it might be that brake light switch. Will see tomorrow when I get a volt meter on it. Hopefully nothing to pricey.

I have replaced a few drawtights for various reasons. I'm not a fan of DT. It has "aggressive" braking, not "panic" braking. For simplicity, price and reliability, a tekonsha voyager is a great controller.

Not a fan of draw tight either, went with a Prodigy and no more issue at all.....

I would say it not the controller but the stop switch like stated above. Have some one check to see if the brake lights on your truck work properly. The controller has no idea how far the brake pedal is pushed just if its pushed.

I will add this.
I have had a Draw Tite, and thought it was a complete piece of crap. (pardon my french) Never had a problem with it, never did anything out of the ordinary ect... It is just a cheap controller that does not work like a brake controller should. Can't remeber what my dad had, but he now has the Prodigy that I put in. Having driven my F250 (now gone) with a Prodigy, he really like's having the Prodigy. All this and he has only had the Prodigy used once, and the other I think twice. Anything cheap is just that cheap.
I have a P3 in my 03 now, love it. It's not the cheapest, but it is a great controller, and well worth the money.
May be just me, but reagdless of your problem, I would get rid of that cheap thing draw tite calls a brake controller.
