Never towed with a diesel before and I just purchased one a few weeks ago. CC Dually etc etc. Anyway I had an older style dually with a 454 and it was always a pig with no power. The duramax is awesome - up any hill with a fully loaded 36ft race car trailer - oh needless to say in the left lane without slowing down. Even can speed up on the largest hills if you give it a little bit of throttle. VERY IMPRESSED and VERY PLEASED:ro)

Welcome to the dark (smoke) side. I was a die hard 454'er myself until... Well enough said. Yes I too had that big :D grin the first time I pulled with my truck... And that was BEFORE the power upgrades!

thanks dreamin. Most likely will not be doing any engine upgrades - unless if they increase my mpg by a bunch. I know you make these things animals, nut not really nec in my case. But then again when is it ever NECESSARY.:exactly:

I also had a 454 with a intake, exhaust, and chip. I thought it did pretty good with my trailer until I hooked up my new Duramax, More impressed every time I tow !

Yeah the Duramax is awesome. I just did a tow of 5500lbs of racecar and trailer. I don't think I used more than 50% throttle going up some 6% grades and I was passing some slower cars.

Might want to look into a few mods. I added an Edge EZ module and MBRP 4" exhaust for just over $800 and was able to put them on myself in the driveway. We only needed modest power boost to pull our fifth wheel and this fit the bill for us.

Besides the big kick in the pants :muahaha: we are getting anywhere from 2.5 to 4 MPG (both hand calculated and DIC) better both loaded and unloaded. It's flat here in north Florida so we are getting about 20 MPG at 70 MPH going down the road unloaded and average 13.5 MPG pulling the fifth wheel. With diesel at $2.45 per gallon here we should have mods paid for in less than a year.
