: Check Engine Light?

Took a road trip pullin a little 16' car hauler to go pick up furniture and stuff from Brooks Alberta (about 1600kms trip) and my engine light came on when driving there. Anyway light went off later that night, but comes on again the next day then when I got back home it goes off again. Both times it came on when the brake controller stopped working properly, and went off when I unplugged the unit. Possibly a coincidence. Anyway just went for a drive and the engine light comes back on after getting some wheel hop driving slowly (about 10kms or so) up a sandy incline then when I turned onto the highway again it only shifts to 2nd gear and wouldnt shift any higher even in manual. I pull over shut it off wait a few seconds start her up again and the engine light is still there but everything else is as normal shifts fine smooth as new just the engine light.
Ill have to get the light checked if I can get it to go on and stay on for the shop with the OBDII , but does this sound like any type of sensor in particular possibly? Im thinkin probably O2 sensor or possibly mass airflow due to the worsened fuel mileage since back from the trip.

I'm no expert but there are lots of experts on this site. But the code reader should pull the codes anyway even if the light is no longer on.

Sounds like a bad wire or grnd but again I"m no expert...

It did go to limp mode which was not getting past 2nd gear. When you stop and shut it off it resets and allows it to get going again.

Don't want to keep doing that as eventually something bad will likely happen as there is a reason it went to limp mode.

good luck, PS I bought my own code reader as it is worth it if you reset twice. I have 3 vehicles and I've used it a dozen times in the past year to diagnose, fix and then reset the computer..

Not to mention piece of mind on nuisance codes

..Basically Stock No Need for a Chip..

Nows when it woulda come in handy no..?? Most have OBDII capability, the good ones will have the nicety of mucho information as well. Typically Boost, EGT's and others. You can still run them in stock mode but get all the benefits of knowing what your motor is doing and knowing what to fix by oneself as opposed to going to a dealer or shop for 100 bucks just to read your code.

Been awhile since I was in Brooks...nice smell as ya come out the west side on the hi way... :D

Cheers,

Theo

Yea 1st and last time there for me, and yes as a matter of fact I was looking at one yesterday for exactly that reason but am not sure what would be the best for what I want. Also what would have caused it to go into limp mode? Fluids good and I wasnt driving it really hard or anything, went down a short trail with dirt and a little sand pretty slowly nothing major. Then it happened Its never before.
