I have a popping noise when hitting small bumps as well as starting and stopping the vehicle. I sounds like it is in the center of the drivers door but cannot find anything in the door itself that is loose. I have read threads talking about the torsion bars popping as well as the front crossmember. I do have nerf bars but have already remedied that problem. Does anyone have pics of the which crossmember is making the noise?

I think I have the same problem. I got my truck used with just 20K miles but it makes sounds like its bending or something. I think the torsion bars are cranked all the way up. I do not know for sure, and also should there be blocks under the leaf springs? It does have nerf bars and the popping sounds, sound like they are coming from the ext. cab area.

I have the same problem. I thought it was my spindle lift or something. I have looked and cant seem to find anything either. I even hit all the grease points just to make sure nothing was hung in the bearings and transferring the noise back. I have no clue what it is and don't want to take it in cause I need my truck for work.

Took mine into the dealer. They said they have gotten rid of 90% of the noise so far, and that I had a body mount that was completely collapsed under the cab near the doors. Most likely that is y'alls problem as well. They told me you have 6 total body mounts.

hmm... mine has 27K on it and I'm starting to hear a clunk when I turn either direction. Only when I'm going forward, and if my hand is TDC of the steering wheel and I turn it to either 3 or 9 I'll get a clunk from what sounds to be the front spindle area... maybe the CV joints but I'd say outside portion of the rig... Greased it inspected it can't seem to see any unusual wear. Had the wife drive it while I walked next to it but no noise.. I can't run that fast so I gave up. Wondering about calling the dealer tomorrow. I've got a 1000 mile trip on Friday so I'm a bit nervous now. Have to take the truck making delivery that I can't do in the car.

thoughts?

If nerf bar mounts are touching the frame at all, they will make noise. Most nerf bar brackets are too big to fit in the body mount pocket without contacting the frame a little, you would be suprised how much they rub on the frame due to body mount movement (due to the fact that they are actually bolted to the body VIA the body mount bolt) Also, most nerf bars come with a small bracket that ties the rear mount to the frame. This will also cause noise as it is grounding out the body mount against the frame. IF YOU HAVE A NOISE THAT YOU CANNOT SEEM TO FIND, REMOVE YOUR NERF BARS BEFORE WASTING YOUR TIME TRYING TO FIND IT. You will be suprised...

You have an intermediate shaft clunk. hmm... mine has 27K on it and I'm starting to hear a clunk when I turn either direction. OK I am new here. I have an 05 Crew cab GMC 4 door 4x4 with 2,000 miles on it and I have a popping a rattling noise coming from the right front...sounds like the fender some where when I hit bumps and get on the brakes????? I have gone all over the front under the hood and the bottom of the truck and I cannot find anything loose. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Just got mine back from the dealer. They replaced body mount and said my passenger door wasn't mounted good. Remounted and greased door, and also replaced the steering shaft with new design. Also got cig lighter fixed. I'm happy now. No more popping.

Max, I have the factory nerf bars. I have jumped up and down on them and cant get them to make a sound and I weigh 250. I am going to investigate the body mount next.

Tamale, was the body mount up in the right front? I think there is one by the core support and one that the nerf bolts too.

The body mount was under the cab somewhere on the passenger side. They didn't get in specifics with me but I would suspect it to be one that the nerf bars were mounted too. I took my nerf bars off and it made absolutley no difference. It still made all the same noises.

Max, you were right....after basically taking the whole front end off of my truck I went back to the nerf bar. I got a flashlight and found where the bracket was rubbing the pocket on front body mount. I took a grinder and ground nearly 1/2 inch off to make it fit. Now I feel like I have a new truck!!! No pops or rattles! This forum rocks....my dealer looked at it and could not figure out what was wrong with it. Thanks for the 411!:cool2: :grd:

ok this popping noise some of you talk about, is it when you turn in a curve on the road; smooth that is, and does not happen again until you turn the opposite way.
just noticed mine after a little off-roading.
