yes it will work, But all dmax's come with the g-80 locker. If the one your gonna buy is a "true posi" then your gonna blow that rear end out, especially if you tow.

I dont think posi's hold up well to the amount of torque and load the duramax puts out/pulls. a tru trac or the grizzly locker would be a good upgrade to an open or g80 locked diff. or you could spool it...

What do you not understand ? A "True" posi will not hold up to the tq, and load. Thats why the g-80 unlocks when you spin your tires going around a corner, and you get 1 mark when turning.

limited slip and posi are the same. infact, posi is gm's terminology for limited slip!!! you will be fine with a g-80. they do not like break torqes or donuts. but not many limited slips do.

That is a common misconception......My 2002 2X4 did not have the G80....

G80 is the RPO code and if you have it it will be listed int the glove box with all the other codes.

My truck did not say G80 and I could peel one wheel all day long.

Not all Dmaxes come with a G-80. Unless ordered with it, it's not in there.

just to clear something up, the g80 is a locker, not a limited slip. it does not use clutches and spring packs to engage both tires. i believe there was a factory limited slip though, possibly rpo code g86. maybe someone could verify this with first hand knowledge?

you have no clue!! not only does the g-80 have clutches, it also is a limited slip. it just has other crap in there that is supposed to disengage it when it(the locker) hits a certain rpm and will cause it to unlock to prevent damage.

gm may call it locker or some other name, but it acts just like a limited slip.

Welp, thanks for clearing up a lot of bad info I've been reading lately. To me there still seems to be some technicalities that deem it a "locker" rather than a limited slip.
