: Break in period/Lift?
Greyling05 07-03-2005, 11:56 PM :help2: Diesel Virgin here:eek:. Some info to help in anwering. New 05 D/A CC/SB LT replaced my '02 Z71. Finally committed to a 7-9" Cognito and some Yukon 4.56 gears front & rear. Planning on 37" MT/Rs or Toyo MTs. My question is: How many miles should I drive it B4 insalling the lift. Ive got 500 on the OD now, and want to do this right. Also anyone install the CST or Cognito at home? How tall of jack stands will I need? Any specialty tools to make my life easier:mad: ? Ive got Air, pickle forks, sawzall, and all the normal craftsman drive tools and such. There are tons of threads for installs on this and other related sites, but nothing specific for Cognito.
Thanks for the tips.:ro)
And yes I will work on my SIG and Info soon.

Gotlift 07-04-2005, 12:03 AM Sweet, mine was put on by the dealer so I have no ideal. Justin over at Cognito can help you I've heard he is a good guy. Call him for directions.
9W3-HD 07-04-2005, 12:12 AM First of all there is no reason to wait, go ahead and do it, a hoist would make your life a whole lot easier, if you know anyone or have any access to one over the weekend, thats the way to go. Pickle forks will tear the grease boots, the best way to seperate the ball joints is to use a good size hammer and wack the side on the iron part, after several good hits they usually sepearte, b/c if you tear a boot you usually have to replace the whole joint. Theres a lot of little tricks you learn after you lift a few trucks, but as far as Cognito specifically I dont have any tips.
Greyling05 07-04-2005, 12:29 AM Gotlift?
Which stealer did your Cognito? Most Ive found around us will only do the RCD. Yeah, I need to call to find out if Ill need extended brake lines, Im almost positive I will.

Gotlift 07-04-2005, 12:40 AM Craig Carter Chevy in Puyallap did mine but they no longer do them. Try A- Plus transmission in Puyallap off of Meridan. They are big lift nuts over there and they can re-gear your diffs. Nice bears in your avitar I went to Idaho in May 3 out of 4 in our group killed. Talk to Jet Chevy they might do it
idahofox 07-04-2005, 12:48 AM Washingtonian's leave our Bear's alone, les' they come over to WA.:D

Gotlift 07-04-2005, 04:09 AM All come on I was just contributing to the local ecomony. Beautiful country near the Gospel Hump. Sure did suck to come home.
ChevyManSC 07-05-2005, 12:18 PM I've never heard of a Cognito lift, but I've installed many lift kits and the only tool you will love to have is a good set of pry bars, a sawzall, metric wrenches, sockets, and deep well sockets, if you get a set of the 6 ton jackstands and jack the front end of the truck up to where you can have the jackstands all the way up, and set them on the frame behind the front tire, it should be high enough to where you can put your lift on, when it is done though you may have to jack it up a little more to fit the tires on. Also if that lift is a spindle lift, where you only lower the lower control arms and install a longer spindle, is a hell of a lot easier to put on, and if the lower control arm drops are one piece all the way across they are a lot sturdier of a design.
Greyling05 07-05-2005, 09:17 PM Thanks for some of the tips. I find myself looking for excuses to buy more tools, so let me know if there is anything else that would "be nice" to have. Cognito is a relatively new company out of Bakersfield, CA that makes some seriously tough, tall and excellent quality products. Check out their website for some info and pics if you are not already familiar with them. I will be posting pics and documenting how my home lift install goes for anyone interested. Just ordered some N-Fab bars in preperation for the jump up into the cab. Can't wait!:D
P.S. Those are North Texas HOGs and my .308 FAL, not Idaho Bars!

Gotlift 07-05-2005, 11:50 PM May need to get the eyeballs checked they looked like bars to me what part of N. Texas? Used to hunt up near Canadian, TX.
_nar_ 07-06-2005, 12:14 AM If you want to buy tools, get the actual torsion bar unloading tool. DO NOT use a gear puller hanging off the crossmember. I use a gear puller but I made a u out of 3/8 plate that goes around the crossmember so it can't get away. The correct tool would still be better.
Other than that ifs lifts aren't all that bad to install. We did my brother's rcd in about 10 hours and it was the first one we had done.
itonoffun 07-06-2005, 01:36 AM i just installed 7'' cognito this weekend on my truck. went smooth other than i could not use my sway bar in front it hit the spindle. directions say to flip bar end to end and reatach with stock links. well i will have to get some shorter links and drop the sway bar mounts. also i put the pitman arm brace on and it would not work either. i also installed new uca's and had to bend the mounting pockets out a bit but no big deal. overall i am satisfied with the kit. but i will be calling justin to resolve some issues. got it alligned today and it drives straight and true. no shaking or weird noises. as mentioned before get the proper torsion bar tool. other than that sounds like you have everything else. good luck.:ro)
_nar_ 07-06-2005, 02:36 AM itonoffun-Better update the sig and post some pics. Sounds cool.
