I've been going back and forth between a 04-05 chevy or dodge. On Dodge forums they think there truck is perfect. So they really don't say anything useful to a future buyer looking to get the truck. Are any of you former Dodge owners or have any good info. Please keep it to practical useful info.

Moved to Buying a Truck

As someone that has owned both, an LLY powered Chevy and a Cummins powered Dodge, I would get another LLY before I bought another Dodge....... As far as the Dodge goes, IMO the truck is junk..... Only thing good about it is the Cummins engine they put under the hood....... The ride of the Chevy is nowhere near as harsh as the Dodge, the interior is more comfortable in the Chevy, and the Chevy's look better...... IMHO of course......

That being said... If Chevy didn't have the Dmax now my ultimate truck would be a '03-07 classic body style truck with the 5.9 Cummins engine and the Allison transmission in it.......

What made your Dodge junk?

What made your Dodge junk?

Sheet metal was thin, so it wanted to dent fairly easy. Everything underneath had a nice coat of rust since there wasn't much painted under there from the factory (not very well if it was). 4x4 operation is dependent on a vacuum actuator that has a tendency to not work. The transmissions aren't anywhere near strong enough in stock form. The steering linkage setup is prone to premature wear without aftermarket bracing. Passenger compartment wasn't anywhere near as quiet inside as the Chevy's.

I've heard about the steering linkage problem before.

Dodges are literally rusting on the lots, trust me.

My buddy has a '05 Dodge, we both pull big 5ers, his tranny has already crapped out. His plastic intercooler has busted, I had to pull his 5er for him LOL. His interior is crappy compaired to mine and mine is way more comforatable

My son has had two Dodges with the Cummins engines. Engines were great. He lives in a desert area so rust is no problem. The weak point in the two were the auto transmissions. Too much engine for what was behind it. He does pull a 28 or 30 travel trailer with it. I find the GM to be a more creature comfort orientated.
