Ok guys, had to tear motor down...when putting back together put new head gaskets and torgued head studs nuts to 145.....has this messed anything up? is this to tight...i could have sworn it said 145 on paper but it said 125ftlbs.....what you think?

if its out loosen them and retorque to 125 ftlb if not i dont think you will have any problems but its a possibility.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'm sure there is a "fudge factor" in the torque specs for everything. If anything loosening and re-torquing will do more harm than good to your gasket. The extra torque may cause the cylinder walls to bulge ever so slightly. That is why guys pay to have a motor torque plate honed before installing studs but I doubt an extra 20 ft-lbs will cause massive destruction. That is what like 16% more or something....I'm sure all of us shade tree types are using inspected and calibrated torque wrenches....one of the reasons GM used torque-angle.

Did you have the head milled down before rebuild? What thickness head gaskets did you use? It won't leak if torqued down in correct sequence. 20 extra ft/lbs shouldn't cause to much of an issue, but my train of thought of any possible problems might be piston clearance (depending on above questions) or tinsel strength of the stud itself. I don't think the gasket will squeeze down much more with an extra 20ft/lbs so clearance might not be an issue. I could be wrong though, so hopefully someone else will have better insight for you.

Won't hurt anything. Only risk is stripping the threads or snapping the stud off.

What he said. The threads will strip or the stud snap before any damage to the engine occurs. And really 20 over on a 125 job isn't all that much.

ok guys thanks alot for the info.....i have the arp head studs....i have a grade (c) gasket..i could have sworn it was 145...but nothing has been done to hone anything or anything...i clean both surfaces very well put new gasket and torgued it down.....also being a brand new gasket would it hurt anything to take the head off after torguing?

the studs are 220000 tencil strength also

My head studs were torqued to 150ftlb and it trashed the gaskets imo.

why did it trash gaskets?

Do NOT back it off. The gaskets have 'crushed' to that torque. You will be fine at 145 ft lbs.

I might be wrong, but it looks like it warped the gasket. I don't think it was seated correctly as I believe coolant was leaking in down the ring from the passages.
