I've had a couple threads with similar questions lately, please bear with me if I'm redundant or annoying, I'm just trying to figure this out as I'm going to need new tires soon.

Here's the deal, I bought new 18" x 9" XD wheels and want to go with a 35"ish mud tire mounted to them. I currently have BFG ATs with factory specs of 34.6" x 12.2, and would like a similar sized tire for an 18" wheel. I like the Nitto Trail Grapplers and Toyo MTs both based on reviews as well as price.

So, I'm considering the 35 x 12.5's in each of these brands. The Toyo spec is 35" x 13.2" and the Nitto spec is 35.04" x 13.39", so they are a wee bit taller and wider, but when you factor the wheel widths they were measured on (BFG 8.5", Toyo/Nitto 10"), and adjust .2" per 1/2" wheel width, they are closer, maybe just 1/2" wider. So I think no big deal, I did the NorCal fender mod to the rear of the front fender and will have plenty of room.....

However.......today in a parking lot I saw a Jeep with some Toyo MTs in 35x12.5x18, just the size I'm looking for, and they looked huge. I didn't have a tape measure, so I marked on my leg the height and it was about 1.5" taller than my tire, though it only specs at .4" taller. The width seemed substantially wider too.

How the hell am I supposed to figure out what will fit without mounting different tires, and that's obviously not an option? Aren't factory specs pretty accurate? Why would these be so frigging huge on this Jeep?

Last question, does anybody have a 35x12.5x18 in either of these tires and can they give me their specs?
