Was en route to Rochester NY yesterday, truck was running fine. Stopped to use a rest room for a couple of minutes. When I went to leave, the truck seemed slow to shift, then had little power (wouldn't rev beyond 2K rpms). Also seemed to stumble at lower rpms if I hit the gas moderately hard. I pulled into a parking lot; it stalled once when I came to a stop sign in the parking lot but restarted and ran fine at slow speed.

Roadside assistance (after a lengthy wait) towed it to a dealer about 25 miles from my house that is closed until Tuesday (and I'm not even sure if they have any diesel mechanics since it is a very small, rural dealership). They wouldn't tow it any further as that's all Roadside assistance would allow.

I would really like to get it home and back here to my selling dealer but don't think it will make it. The truck is an 05, totally stock with 8700 miles on it. I had gone through about 3/8ths of a tank of fuel before the problem started and had filled up at a reputable station where I always buy fuel (in fact I was taking some extra fuel along with me that I purchased at the same time just in case I ran low during my trip and it looks just as clean as can be).

Any ideas?

Truck was towed to dealership, that issue is solved. Please save this area for when you are stranded with no help, or working on it in your driveway with no start, black smoke, etc... Moving this to the LLY section...

The 2000 RPM limit makes it sound like the truck went into "limp" mode. This is an engine or transmission self-protection mode when the computer senses something out of the ordinary. You will know a lot more once the dealer is able to put the Tech II scan tool on it and read the codes.

Sometimes when this happens, you can turn the key off, let it sit a few minutes then restart the truck, and it will go back to normal operation. Did you try that?

Have you ever changed or had changed the fuel filter? Just because the fuel looks clean doesn't mean it is.

Could just have been water or a clogged filter like Mrs. Spoolin suggested. I don't think I recall the water in fuel light ever coming on on anyones truck. I think that part doesn't work or nobody on this forum has ever had water.

Besides that, the dealer should be able to figure it out. WHo is your dealer? Nucar in New Castle? They are an excellent dealership.

Thanks for the replies folks. The SES light did not come on. The truck was running fine just prior to the restroom break. It revs past 2K just fine when in park, but falls all over itself when in drive. I went up to the dealer where it was towed to (in Oxford PA, about 25 miles away) yesterday and tried repriming it just in case it somehow lost prime, but that didn't do any good. It is still the original fuel filter with 8700 miles on it.

I've been reading through the GM service manuals and have found there are alot of DTCs that won't set the SES light. Would limp mode make it come on or not? Is there any way I can reset it myself (out of limp mode) if that's the problem? Would a clogged fuel filter or water come on so suddenly?

Thanks in advance

Well, since it's a nice day and I have a spare filter, I'm heading up there to change it. Will let y'all know if that fixes it.

The new filter cured it. I'll cut it open an post some pics later. The truck is back home. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help

I threw a P1093 with Edge on Level 3 twice with almost 10,000 on the fuel filter. I replaced it and I have not thrown any codes since.
