: Rough Idle No Power White Smoke
Silver_Silver 04-21-2010, 07:29 PM I am having very similar issues to this thread...
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3821025
Any help on decyphering these numbers, I have EFI Live and this is what I came up with.
Fuel Rail Pressure Idle Cold 5700 PSI
Balancing Pressure at idle and cold engine in Park
Cylinder #1 15
Cylinder #2 -7
Cylinder #3 -7
Cylinder #4 15
Cylinder #5 -7
Cylinder #6 -7
Cylinder #7 -7
Cylinder #8 15
Truck has very few miles, but has been sitting for years, and just got it up and running again.

TOTHEMAX! 04-21-2010, 07:38 PM that is quite the difference in balance rates.
pull your dip stick and see if the oil is "over full" does it smell like diesel?
also take a drip of oil off of it and put it on a piece of paper. if a halo appears around the drip it more than likely has fuel in it.
Silver_Silver 04-21-2010, 07:44 PM Yeah, they are all out of specs...
The oil is not over full because the engine has a total of 5 minutes run time on it since new back in 03. However during the five minutes of run time the oil did get very dark and dirty. This is a project truck that got sidelined for years, and just now getting back into it.

TOTHEMAX! 04-21-2010, 09:02 PM So it has not ran since 03? Does it have fresh fuel? When was the last time the Fuel filter was changed?
Do you have any tune installed on it?
Can you fill out your sig line so we know what we are dealing with?
Silver_Silver 04-21-2010, 10:04 PM Fresh fuel as of yesterday, fresh fuel filter as of yesterday, and some diesel conditioner added to try to help the cleaning of the injectors. No tune at all, this thing is brand new just a few years old, if that makes any sense at all. Stock GM 2500 HD Driveline.
Vehicle is a silverado chassis and driveline with a hummer H1 body. They didn't even have the H1 alpha when we started this project. If anyone knows about the Suburban gorilla, it is the basic concept. This one just pre-dates theirs by a couple years. I will give them credit though, because theirs was up and running first.
I know about the injector issues and figure it is the injectors, but just want to make sure before I tear it appart. Any other suggestions to look out for first?
I have EFI Live so I can monitor most things going on inside the engine.
TOTHEMAX! 04-21-2010, 10:22 PM Im guessing injectors but I just dont know why they would be bad if the motor is new. The only thing I can think of is they are giving bad balance rates because the truck sat for so long and they are possibly stuck??
got-h2o 04-21-2010, 10:51 PM Are you getting any injector knock? Worse case pull the glow plugs and crank to see if theres any excessive fuel. If so, I wouldn't run it for long. If not I say this b/c if it's sticky injectors, I'd try pouring some 2 stroke oil into the fuel filter and see if it clears up.
Silver_Silver 04-22-2010, 07:34 AM Injector Knock??? Can you describe please?
It definitely has not been run for long, mainly because it is way out of balance when running because the cylinders are not all firing, and it can't be good for the drivetrain. I think we are all in agreement the injectors are probably stuck, do you think it would be the cylinders that are high on the balance test or the cylinders that are low, I am guessing one or the other (High or low balance rates) are trying to compensate for the other. The numbers don't move at all during the balance rate test, they are locked in at -7 or 15.
Anything else before I replace all the injectors? Anything at all to measure and confirm?
got-h2o 04-22-2010, 03:05 PM By injector knock I mean is it knocking or ticking excessively? I only ask b/c if it is you don't want to run it for long b/c you'll either hydrolock it or wash out bearings or something. If its not doing that, before you go tearing it down, try the 2 strole oil thing. It helps unstick sticky injectors. Anything rated TCW3. Pull the fuel filter and fill it partially with the oil and let it run through the system. Its a long shot, but could save you a lot of time and $$. Even Standyne or a similar fuel treatment may do the trick.
Silver_Silver 04-22-2010, 04:32 PM No nothing abnormal for a Diesel as far as injector knock.
I have a couple different bottles of diesel conditioners in the tank right now, only 5 gallons of diesel and a couple quarts of conditioners. Still not helping.
If this does come down to teardown, the engine is fairly easy to get to at least compared to your trucks, I think I will be able to get to the injectors in a couple hours for both sides. So much less labor intensive than a GM Truck.
Do you think I can just clean the injector nozzles in an ultrasonic bath? What exactly fails on the injectors? The nozzle, piston, body of the injector, electronics?
