When I first bought the van. The only 15w40 I could find, was Shell dino. Used that, and changed out a Wix oil filter with a Mobile 1 and air filter. I've decided to change it to synthetic Amsoil from what I've read about it. I got the Amsoil engine flush. What I was wondering? If you use it, and the oil in the oil cooler doesn't drain when you drain the oil pan. Do you have to, or need to drain the oil cooler with engine flush in it? What do you guys think about Engine Oil Flushing?

I flushed my dads 454 once and never again. With a remote cooler it's not a good idea. I ended up ruining his engine. Top end ticked like crazy.

Flushing is usually just put it for a certain amount of time idling before an oil change. You never drive around with flushing chemicals in it. So, you are correct it will not flush the oil cooler. I have never done flushing in my diesel. I used Auto-RX for it, this one is put for at least 3k miles and slowly cleans the engine. A little bit pricy but works good.

I wouldn't worry about it. Mixing synthetic with dino isn't a big deal.

If you want to clean the engine dump a can of Seafoam in the oil.

I have a can in my blazer right now mixed in with the SAE30 Shell Rotella and a Mobil 1 oil filter to try and help my lifter tick clean up some.

I've heard the Amsoil engine flush is a harsh cleaner.

WHen i swapped to Amsoil all i did was dump it in. Granted i didn't have the stock cooler and lines installed anymore. When i put in the Lube specialists kit i changed the oil and switched to Amsoil at the same time.

The Amsoil cleans very well. My CDR's plugged twice with junk from it and i've had to clean the gunk out of the CDR. Just keep an eye on your blowby and it it starts to increase clean out or replace your CDR.

I never ran a flush through my pickup, and do not intend to.

As far as mixing synth with dyno, Toddman35 is right. I"ve gone from dyno, to synth and back to dyno in my blazer. No problems switching back and forth. The myth of "once you go synth you can't go back to dyno" is just a myth. That and it's a way to get you to stick with synth from there on out.

After doing "search" for (engine oil flush). Alot of info on tranny flush, they say drain tranny cooler. So, I assume, I should drain the oil cooler if useing the engine flush. This time I won't use the flush, because being lazy and haveing to covertly change the oil (against the rules) here. I did buy this oil filter magnet online, waiting for it. Getting ready for the mission, go'in in.

Amsoil engine flush is not harsh at all. The idea behind using it is it will help clean any slug or carbon out of the engine. Using a synthetic will clean it as well however if anything big comes loose you could plug a filter and the bypass would open and then you would have unfiltered oil. Don't worry about whats in the cooler because its such a small amount of oil plus its not straight flush anyway. Follow the directions on the can and you will be just fine. If you plan on take the oil change out further you might want to change that first filter a bit early.
