Iam got a new 2005 max crew cab,and have a bad knock sound in the front end.It happens when I hit sharp bumps in the road and sounds worse when Iam on the brakes and hit the bumps.I only have 3800 miles on the truck,it sounds like its in the front passenger side.Any ideas....:help:

I think there have been a few others with this issue. Don't recall what it was.. Do a search and I think you will find some valuable info.. Good luck

Have you added nerf bars to your truck? If so check the brackets attached to the rubber grommetts on the cab. I had the same problem hitting bumps and having a clunking sound. The nerf bars brackets were knocking on the frame when you hit bumps. If this is the case loosen the brackets and apply some pressure to the brackets to get them away from the frame and retighten the bolts.

Why hello little thread, you look like a suspension thread, certainly not a motor thread. Off you go then...

Go ask your service manager about this bulliten. If they don't know about it be sure to make fun of them.

I feel your pain. My 2004.5 with 9500 miles is going in Thurs. 7/7 to have the steering box, pitman and idler arms replaced. The front cross member tightening and slotting has been done, the steering shaft has been replaced with a GM shaft with no positive effect. At that point, I replaced the shaft with a Borgeson steering shaft; much to my dismay that did not change anything. On the plus side, the steering shaft has been removed as a variable in the equation.
I had a rattling, thumping noise that continued to increase in intensity and frequency, which led to all the aforementioned attempted "fixes". Hopefully, the front end parts replacement will end this problem.
I did take the truck to a local body shop who did note that the sector shaft coming out of the steering box was really loose and there was some fluid leakage coming out of the box.
This truck is running stock tires, no chip or exhaust and is not four wheeled. For that matter, it is well maintained and driven with a fair measure of prudence to ensure longevity.
Hopefully, this a manufacturing blip and smoother sailing is on the horizon as I don't have the time to continue to troubleshoot issues on a new vehicle.
Best of luck and I hope this helps.

Mark
