After running the blocker plate for about 30,000 miles would anything bad happen if i just took it off and ran the truck. Any glob of soot or anything workin its way into the intake. I dont know if im gonna do it or not but its leakin a little coolant and some of the things i have read about the long term blocker plate effects kinda alarm me. I just dont wanna mess up this expensive ass engine with what i have meant to be an upgrade. Mabey some re-assurance is all i need. Thanks Yall!!

what are these long term effects of the blocker?

I'd be more concerned about the long term effects of running without it blocked.

someone said something about oil accumulation in the egr that leaks, plus leaking coolant. Im just lookin for some info if anyone has any. My original ? still isnt answered, what could happen if i took it off. Potentially could there be a problem.

im not quite sure what the blocker plate and coolant leaking have in common...

and id also be more worried about the long term effects of not having it blocked. when i removed my intake horn to tap for n2o i was horrified with all the crap that was in there from the egr.

i've heard if your PCV valve isn't vented to the atmosphere oil can build up and be pushed out by the blocker plate and run down the passenger side valve cover. i have my PCV vented to the atmosphere so i don't have to worry about that. negative effects of not having it blocked verses having it blocked are way worse IMO

Bump

Hope I'm not the only one here but what does " BUMP " mean?

A much happyer motor, remove all that EGR junk and rerote the PCV, they just put black oily crud into you intake

A "Bump" is a means of keeping the thread active by "Bumping" it to the top of the category, thereby sustaining interest and spawning more responses.

I wouldn't pull it... When I took my up pipes off and pulled the blocker plate a lot of oil came out of the EGR cooler. I'd be afraid of a runaway once the EGR valve opens for the first time. Wouldn't last long but would scare the piss out of ya and be very bad if in heavy traffic.

That's probably your best bet, EGR block and PCV reroute should ideally be done in conjunction with one another. The reroute eliminates all that oily residue going into the turbo, intercooler, piping, EGR cooler, etc... It's the potential cause of many leaks that look like rear mains, turbo lines, etc. Good to have done regardless of the symptom you are addressing. I've never heard of any coolant issues as a result of the EGR block either.

Just keep in mind, after the reroute, it will take some time for all that accumulated residue to work its way through the system or dry up. Did mine and my EGR flang didn't stop leaking until about 5,000 miles later. Did mine with about 15k on the truck- at 20, everything had dried up. I HATE emissions regs. Takes a very simple and effective diesel engine and turns it into a PITA system!!

Wow, that was helpful.

in my defense, he asked where, not what was needed

so save yourself the cost of the kit and get these parts

*stolen from another forum*

PARTS NEEDED
1/2 to 3/8 copper elbow
Barstool Cap
5/8 Heater hose
2 hose clamps
Optional 2 inch test plug

Go to Home Depo or a place like that. Go to the plumbing section and get a 1/2 to 3/8 copper 90 degree elbow, and if you want to block your resonator box at the same time get a 2 inch test plug. Then find a bar stool cap in the store.

Then go to your local parts store and get some 5/8 heater hose and 2 hose clamps. Length of hose will depend on where you want the hose to end. I used around 9feet.

You are by far ahead to buy the kit for 89.00 from the address in the post above, then if you would need to change it back it would be much easyr. allseasonsdieselperformance.com

Not trying to scare anyone, but I did read some information a while back that sort of concerned me as well on EGR block. For the record, mine has been blocked since 37,500 miles...now at 174,000. To date no issues. I also have a pCV re-route in since about 145,000.

Anyway, I did read something to the effect of acid eating away part of the cooler system and leaks ensuing..?? on that thread there were a bunch that decided to delete the entire Egr/cooler system alltogether becuse of this as well as to free up some room...something I just may consider doing in the near future.

need to do some more reading/searching on this one...me incl. on this forum and others.
