Next week I plan to tow my son's S-10 (ZR2) from Colorado to Southern Texas. This will be the first time towing with my 3 week old GMC. I have fabricated a tow bar on to the front of the S-10. I have 2 questions that I could use advise on. First, I have read that some tranfer cases do not lube the bearings while being towed and the driveshaft should be removed before towing the vehicle. I plan on removing the rear driveshaft but assume I do not need to remove the front driveshaft since the hubs will be disconnected. Does this sound correct to you experts out there? Note: the truck has a push button transfer case that can not be put into neutral. Second; The run will be over highways that are pretty flat. Should I put the transmission in tow/haul, or leave it in the normal mode? Thanks for sharing your experience.

If you go to www.aemfg.com and you might find the answer there or you can call Remco Mfg. They do the driveshaft disconnects and such.

Even if the tranny does lube itself, i would reccomend unhooking the dshaft. Less drag, less wear on the tranny/tcase. No extra miles on the truck. I am all but sure that there is a way to get that elec t case into neutral.

good luck backing up...........

I got everything set up and did a test pull today. The truck pulls the S-10 great. I'll have to avoid emergency braking situations since the extra load pushing the truck is a bit much with the bed unloaded and no tongue weight. I plan on disconnecting the rear driveshaft for the tow but plan to leave the front connected (anyone think this is a bad plan?). I am assuming the front driveshaft will not even be spinning (guess I'll take a look underneath to verify this). Based on other threads, I do not plan on using the tow/haul mode. Any additional thoughts?
