have a clunk in my steering, dealer claims its not the midshaft, and they have been unable to replicate the noise, (i hear it all the time, next time I ride with the tech). Any thoughts on what else it may be? truck is '07.5, has 20k on it....

I have had two issues.

One was a clunk after, for instance, turning while driving through a curb cut or gutter. (As the truck would shift weight left to right)That turned out to be " Left side torsion bar cross member bushing had come seperated from it's sleeve" It was a very noticeable clunk heard and felt under driver's feet.
Svc writer said it was obviously a defective part to begin with, nothing would cause it from use. Part replaced is "Torsion Bar Support Insulator 15001006".

The other is a general rattle, for which my dealer replaced the ISS, which did nothing to fix the still unknown problem. At this point my dealer has said they need for it to get worse before they can figure out what it is....

Good luck.

Are these problems covered under the 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty?

They should be. The steering wheel clunk is common and I believe it is the mid shaft on the steering. Its a saftey issue. Don't go to long before you fix it. Your warranty should fix it, or there is a sticky on this site on how you can fix it yourself.

:(I have been hearing this for about 3 months now. Thought it needed greasing. That didnt help. I have a piece of door molding coming off so it looks like a trip to the stealer. Thanks.:(

If you feel it in the floor board when turning and you have steps then you might want to check the mount bolts on the steps. I had a bad clunk when I turned and it was just the side steps bolts.

Check the suspension and steering section for the "rattle" associated with the steering linkage.

I took mine in a few months ago for this same problem. If I take my steering wheel back and forth I can hear and feel it clunk in the steering column. The dealer replaced the intermediate steering shaft and that did nothing the more I drive it the worse it feels and sounds. At 33,000 miles I am real tired of it does anyone else have this same problem and if so do you know how to fix it. All help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem a few months after I bought it. Turned out to be a bolt that was not torqued to spec according to the dealer. Everything was re-torqued and I have not had the problem since.

I tried to post it in this forum, but it was moved to suspension and steering instead.
