I was just wondering if any one has any tricks to replacing the antenna receptacle? It looks like it is a real pain in the butt. I really feel that GM dropped the ball on this design. Something that should be a five minute fix looks to be hours. The dealer wanted $350 to fix it just in labor! I did a search already and came up with nothing.

Thanks

I have never seen any reports of this on the DieselPlace. How about some details? What happened?

Well when I bought the truck used the antenna had a slight lean to it probably from a drive through car wash. I lived with it for couple of months and decided to try and very gently bent it back straight. It snapped off as soon as I put just a little pressure to it. I figured no big deal I'll just go to the dealer and get the parts and take care of it. I've put together several cars and shouldn't be a problem. WRONG! Apparently I need to take of the passenger fender to complete the task according to someone that works at the dealer. I tried getting to it from the cowel vent but got stopped by the wiper arms that wouldn't come off! You would think that they would make the antenna with the male threads and the receptacle with the female threads. I'd rather take my chances with an easy out then taking a fender off. over

Your saying that the antenna is a 1 piece unit that is attatched to the mount ?

The antenna should just unscrew from the mount

I was thinking the same thing as Diesel Dragon,
the last 3 trucks i have owned (02, 03 and 04.5), the antenna just unscrewed from the base.

I bend mine back severely everytime i go in the garage, oh well, well I just bought a custom cover wich requires poking a little hole in the cover for the antenna, I said screw that and just uncrewed both the radio antenna and the onstar, hell I didnt even put the radio antenna back on, since I have XM Ive never used it anyway

your talking of the antenna base, warranty pays about 2.5 hours.its not too bad,the end of the cowl just pulls up.from the inside remove the upper dash pad and youll see where the otuside antenna wire meets the insideon the very right .disconnect it and secure the end to some strong string with electrical tape.from the outside remove the 3 screws that secure the base, with 2 persons 1 pull from the ouside while another pushes(slowly and carefully)it will come out!!reverse to install the new one
