I'm asumming it should fall to the bottom of the pan a s this is where it would be checked from but, Man. We are leaving in the morning for Vacation. Hope it dont suck it up! Can Some one tell me if is metal, I would like to put a magnet down there for a piece of mind.
Thanks
lakingslayer 07-01-2005, 08:32 PM I wouldn't chance it. I'd get it out of there before driving it anywhere.

aka108 07-01-2005, 10:02 PM Another fine China built product. Frankly, I'd drive it as it probably is in the bottom of the pan along with a other stuff and large enough (ie heavy) that it will probably remain there.
gtoguy1967 07-02-2005, 09:03 AM I'm driving the dumb thing ! Then the dealer can find it ! It should be fine with being a 10 quart system and the pick up has a screen I'm sure Am not worried (much). Not going to let it bother me. Maybe I will get a free oil change out of the deal it will be due as soon as I get back.:)
This will only be the second time back to the dealer in 20000 miles and the other times were minnor so Hopfully they take care of me like before???
biggar 07-02-2005, 01:11 PM I had a couple of oil pump drive rods in the bottom of an old big block Ford oil pan for years. I think it would be nearly impossible for that piece of metal to get anywhere near moving parts. It's layin' in the bottom and you'd have to probably roll the truck over to get it to move.

DMAXITOL 07-02-2005, 01:45 PM I was lucky, the end broke off in my hand. WARNING SIGNS!= 1 wire is broken, so you cut it off and go on. Next check there are 8 or more wires broken, don't re-insert! The center rod brakes and then the outter wires start to go , it's just a matter of time before SHOOT!
txguppy 07-02-2005, 11:12 PM Where's it breaking off at, Pix?????
Burner 07-02-2005, 11:56 PM The marker becomes loose or warboly (sp) and then it just falls off. Look at the marker where it joins the cable....that's the failure point.
DMAXITOL 07-04-2005, 12:50 AM too late for pics, mine broke at the end, the alum. piece that has the level markings!

kburton 07-04-2005, 04:26 PM Mine broke off also. Right at the point where the cable is fastened to the aluminum end. I took it to the dealer and they told me it would stay in the bottom of the pan and may come out on the next oil change. So far it has not come out and it has caused no problem.
