: Any Way To Make Trans Stay in Tow Haul

I would like to have the transmission default to tow haul when the truck is started and stay that way unless the button is pressed. Is there any way to do this in software? I am thinking I could manage it by making a timer to momentarily "push" the button, but man, what a hassle.

I've wondered the same thing . . . . on those long-haul trips, it'd sometimes take me 50 or so miles after a fuel stop to remember to push the button. Especially on fuel stop #4 at 3am :ro)

even if it does turn on when the truck starts it aint going to do nothin till the tranny gets up to 88degrees or so anyway. keep it out of t/h so the trans can slip and get up to temp then hit the t/h button. i agree with mikeL on this one

The problem is, I am not the one driving the truck. It belongs to a fire chief who is very absent minded about this sort of thing. My idea is to try to keep the temperatures and clutch slippage down and hopefully it will last a while longer. As well as saving the brakes somewhat. I have a Freightliner ambulance that runs a 1000 behind a 5.9 Cummins and the way it operates at all times is very similar to the GMC in tow haul mode.

Welcom Birken, hope you spend as much time here as TDS. Where's your avatar?

There are products that automatically turn COMP MODE on and Traction Control off for GM products, so it certainly can be done. I would venture a guess that the TC unit could be adapted to work on the T/H switch. Look at SLP Engineering's Camaro TC unit. It stands a good chance of working, since all it is doing is waiting until the engine starts, then mimicing the button being pressed.
