: Just Got An Alignment After Cranking Torsion Bars And Now Truck Computer Acting Crazy
MUD DIGGER FL 04-14-2010, 09:40 PM Ugh I Just Got Home From Tire Kingdom Spent 6 Hours There Doing An Alignment And Puting My Tire Pressure Sensors In The New Tires.... Left There With Just The Alignment Done Because They Couldnt Find Two Of The Special Vavle Stems Soo I Gotta Go Back Tomorrow... When I Left I Noticed The Truck Wanting To Lean To The Left Soo I Let Go Of The Steering Wheel And Thats What It Did It Pulled To The Left?????/ Are You Serious It Didnt Even Do That Before The Alignment It Didnt Pull At All The Only Reason Why I Did An Alignment In The First Place Cause I Was Told To After I Cranked My Torsion Bars All The Way Up And I Was Told I Was Cambaring... Im Soo Confused Right Now!!:( Another Thing Since The Sensors Arnt In The Tires Yet And Its Telling Me To Check All Tire Pressures And Its Reading Some Crazy Number Like 1psi 25psi Well You Get It... Can That Be Connected To Why Im Reading Like 2 3 6 Mpg After I Just Reset It When I Got Back The Truck???? Please Help Guys I Know You Guys Have The Knowledge.... Thanks In Advance...
wreedLBZ 04-14-2010, 09:55 PM so are the TPMS sensors in the tires or not?
MUD DIGGER FL 04-14-2010, 09:56 PM so are the TPMS sensors in the tires or not?

SOO I DONT HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT? HOW ABOUT THE ALIGNMENT SITUATION I FEEL THAT I MESSED UP THE TRUCK AS SOON AS I TOOK ADVICE AND CRANKED UP MY TORSION BARS UP TO FIT 305/70/R16???
wreedLBZ 04-14-2010, 10:02 PM Take it to a good alignement shop and you will have no problems.
MUD DIGGER FL 04-14-2010, 10:10 PM Ok I Understand. No Offense But I Need More Opinions Thanks A Lot For Your Time... Still Completely Confused On The Whole Torsion Bar Crank?? And All These Problems Im Having Is That Also The Reason Im Showing 3mpg???:(
wreedLBZ 04-14-2010, 10:12 PM Cranking the bars is normal procedure to fit bigger tires, just dont overcrank. Do you drive alot? I bet if you go drive the MPG goes up.
hotdog321 04-14-2010, 10:16 PM I agree take it back to the shop have them fix it here in SoCal more than half of trucks all have torsion bars cranked with 37 inch tires or larger and have no issues
MUD DIGGER FL 04-14-2010, 10:20 PM Over Cranked?? I Used A Inpact Gun Till They Didnt Crank Anymore. Could That Be Over Crank....:(
wreedLBZ 04-14-2010, 10:21 PM **** Yeah Dude! hahaah post a pic man! pronto
cowboy56 04-14-2010, 10:26 PM I've cranked the torsion bars on 5 of my trucks so far and I've never aligned any of them, and I've never had tire wear issues or alignment problems. I think alignment is overrated especially after just cranking the bars.

Dude he said he turned the torsion bar bolts with a impact until they wouldnt go in any farther. He for sure over cranked and needs to back em down some.
MUD DIGGER FL 04-14-2010, 10:46 PM Um A Pic? Theres Two In My Garage?? Im Still New To This Forum... And You Asked If I Drive A Lot? No Probably About And Hour Added Up In A Day Only A Few Miles Total... I Just Filled Up Last Night And Im Already Down To 3/4 Of A Tank Is This Seriously Happening!!?? Instead Of Laughing It Would Be Nice To Help Someone Explain The Torsion Bars I Thought It Lifts The Truck To Fit Bigger Tires?? How Can I Bring Them Back Down When I Dont Even Know Where They Should Be??? This Sucks!!!:( Im Only 24 And Inexperience With These "new Trucks" I Wish I Never Touched It!!!
wreedLBZ 04-14-2010, 10:48 PM Dude I am only 21 I am not laughing at you.
Not a pic of you truck a pic of the adjuster bolts.
wreedLBZ 04-14-2010, 10:51 PM oh and the bad MPG, your truck is probably in the middle of a regen i would bet.
MUD DIGGER FL 04-14-2010, 10:53 PM Dude I am only 21 I am not laughing at you.

OK... UMM I WONT HAVE PICS TILL TOMORROW BUT THERES PROBABLY LIKE 5 THREADS ON EACH BOLT LEFT.... WHY IS IT SOO BAD AND WHY WOULD A 4X4 SHOP TELL ME TO DO IT?? DOESNT MAKE ANY SINCE I DONT WANNA MESS UP MY NEW TRUCK...
MUD DIGGER FL 04-14-2010, 10:58 PM oh and the bad MPG, your truck is probably in the middle of a regen i would bet.
UGH I HATE THAT REGEN CRAP I NEVER KNOW WHEN ITS DOING THAT. IS THERE A WAY TO KNOW SOME SIGN BESIDES MILEAGE GOING DOWN AND HOW LONG DOES IT NORMALLY LAST?? I GONE THROUGH ONE TANK IN 4 DAYS AND NOW SINCE FILLING UP LAST NIGHT IM ALREADY DOWN TO 3/4...

Its not bad it just sounds like you went a little to far. Is the ride horrible? Its OK to crank the bars to a certain extent.

Get a MBRP exhaust and get the DPF out, then get a PPE standard and I bet you see 19+mpg on the highway.
cowboy56 04-15-2010, 12:00 AM 5 threads left is fine I have maybe 1 with no problems. Your problem is the alignment most likely. As for the mileage bigger tires will change it but tpms sensors won't and I don't know what else they could have done to screw up the mileage on your computer.

UMM HONESTLY ITS NOT THAT BAD ONLY WHEN YOU HIT PRETTY BAD BUMPS ITS REAL STIFF OFCOURSE CAUSE OF NO TRAVEL LEFT TO ABSORB BUT SINCE THERES SOO MUCH MEAT ON THE TIRE YOU DONT FEEL IT AS MUCH, BUT THATS NOT SAYING MUCH CAUSE MY OLD TRUCK WAS A 94 CHEVY 2500 7.4 454 V8 ONLY 6MPG RUNNING 40" MT'S....
MUD DIGGER FL 04-15-2010, 01:22 AM 5 threads left is fine I have maybe 1 with no problems. Your problem is the alignment most likely. As for the mileage bigger tires will change it but tpms sensors won't and I don't know what else they could have done to screw up the mileage on your computer.
THANKS COWBOY56 UMM THEY DID SAY THEY HAVE TO RESET THE COMPUTER TOMORROW AFTER THEY PUT THE SENSORS IN SOO ILL CROSS MY FINGERS AND HOPEFULLY ALL WORKS OUT WELL... ILL KEEP YOU GUYS INFORMED ONCE AGAIN THANKS A LOT...:)
Texas_Boss 04-15-2010, 11:01 AM I have mine over cranked for now because thats what the dumb*ss did b4 I bought the truck. He put the leveling keys on it and you don't need them with the newer model trucks so now they are all the way down and still too high. I am runningg 33" tires, tpms, no alignment changes, and cognito UCA's and barely pull to the right on a crown which is normal so sounds like ur shop messed up man! Oh ya and i'm reading about 14 mpg with the stock exhaust
Joeairforce 04-15-2010, 11:18 AM Moved to Suspension and Steering
the reason your pulling to the left is because from the factory, most of the trucks sit level with the driverside bolt being further in then the passenger one. when you cranked both, you have both bolts most likely even, making the passenger side of the truck sit a bit higher. measure both sides of the truck see if their equal, I bet you thats the first problem.
with the tpms sensors, after you get all 4 in your going to have to do the relearn process. involved the key fob, letting air out of each tire for 3 seconds till the truck beeps and you move onto the next tire. It's in the owners manual, if tire kingdom doesnt already do it for you.
tbender2010 04-15-2010, 01:34 PM My dad has an 09 2wd LMM and stock he saw 15MPG's town/highway. With the bigger tires you probably through the computer off, try hand calculating the MPG's next fill up. Also, you put bigger and a lot heavier tires on, they are going to bring MPG's down at least a 1-2MPG's. Go back and complain about the alignment, also do what adas said before going back, check each side. When i cranked mine up the left side is in at least 2-3 threads more than the right. I work at a shop and all the guys there with truck crank the t-bars, even my boss, you have nothing to worry about, just adjust them correctly.
D/AChris 04-15-2010, 01:50 PM How many threads you show has nothing to do with whether it's overcranked or not. Check the distance between the upper control arm (UCA) and the metal bumpstop. Should be at least 3/4" of space, if less, then you may be overcranked. Good writeup here from NorCal Nic, good explanation of what to do/not to do. Search for here. Have YOU manually checked the tire pressure? That could also be an issue, if one side has more psi in it than other. Also, you'll probably want either shock extentions or new, longer, shocks since you cranked the bars up. Made a huge difference with mine. Chris

richard cheese 04-15-2010, 02:08 PM you are also showing crappy mileage because you added bigger than stock tires, and didnt use a tuner to recalibrate the truck computer to compensate for that
relax...it's ok
as far as the overcranking.....i agree with an above poster....make sure there is enough room between the UCA and the metal bumpstop underneath it. if not...your front end will drop out from underneath you over any little bump
MUD DIGGER FL 04-15-2010, 10:35 PM Ok Finally Done With The Whole Tire Kingdom Issue... As Soon As I Came In This Morning And He Looked At The Report For The Alignment The First Thing He Said Was Its Pulling To The Left..... O Wow Ok He Can Tell Just By The Paper.. Soo It Went Back On The Machine And They Worked On The Truck For Another For Hours . At The End He Had To Reset The Computer Even Though The Tire Psi Sensors Were Reading Correctly, But I Couldnt Get The Tire Symbol Off The Dash... After Multiple Trys He Couldnt Do It.... Soo I Took It To One Of My Friends Shop That Has The Machine To Reset Soo He Did. The Only Way To Get It Off Was To Reprogram The Computer For The New Tires Makes Sense Since The Stocks Were 80psi And These Are 50psi.... Soo At The End Of Another Long Day All Worked Out Well..... Very Happy O And My Mpg Is Reading A Lot More Accurate. I Wanna Tahnk All You Guys For Assisting Me During This Hard And Stressful Time....:)
wreedLBZ 04-15-2010, 10:46 PM weird how the tires sensors have something to do with the mileage.
MUD DIGGER FL 04-16-2010, 01:35 AM weird how the tires sensors have something to do with the mileage.
WELL YES AND NO LOL IF YOU THINK REALLY OUTSIDE THE BOX... WHEN THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS JUST READING LIKE 1PSI 8PSI 12PSI IT WAS AVERAGING WHAT THE TRUCK WILL GET WITH THE TIRES THAT LOW... HINT THE REASON I WAS SHOWING 2MPG 6MPG 8MPG........ NOW THAT THE COMPUTER IS REPROGRAMED TO THE NEW TIRES ITS MORE ACCURATE... WELL IM ONLY GETTING 12MPG JUST CITY DRIVING. I GUESS THAT WOULD HAVE TO DO.... THANKS A LOT WREEDLBZ FOR ALL YOUR HELP! :)
OIL99 04-16-2010, 09:45 AM Over Cranked?? I Used A Inpact Gun Till They Didnt Crank Anymore. Could That Be Over Crank....:(
Not sure about that one??... but after cranking mine and several visits to re-align...I have a slight pull that I've come to accept. And then everytime I rotate my tires I have a new slightly different pull.

I THINK YOU MIGHT WANNA GO BACK TO A DIFFERENT SHOP OR SOMTHING...... I DONT CARE HOW MUCH YOU CRANKED YOUR BARS.... ITS NOT SUPPOSE TO PULL AT ALL. THATS WHAT A 4X4 SHOP TOLD ME WHEN THE RESET MY COMPUTER. THE PROBLEM IS NOBODY WANTS TO TAKE THE TIME IN GETTING IT ALLIGN RIGHT... REMEBER IT TOOK ME 6 HOURS ONE DAY AND 4 HOURS THE NEXT FOR THEM TO GET IT RIGHT. THE ONLY DIFERENCE I HAVE NOW IS ITS A LITTLE STIFFER TO TURN.... AND THATS BECAUSE OF THE BIGGER TIRES...
richard cheese 04-16-2010, 10:51 AM some words of advice...before you go doing any other mods to your truck...you need to research it here on DP...you will find TONS of useful information...many DIY turtorials ,and all around assholes, errrrrr nice people lol
good luck
