I'm the proud new owner of a Suncoast stage IV trans. It rocks!:ro)

Drove to New Castle, IN to see Kenny(04forme) at Transmission Specialists. Kenny and Wes did an excellent job. I got to watch the whole time, and I was very impressed. Got there at 7:00, and the trans. was back in the truck and completed at 1:00. We even had time for a little ride in Kenny's truck(04 CC dmax w/juice SC IV). Then Kenny installed my Xtreme, and we went on a little test drive in mine. I think he was a little surprised at the smoke it made.):h

I was a little worried about the learning period before I went up there,(Dreaded '01) it never really shifted all that harsh and the shifts are getting better all the time. I didn't really get to drive when I got home, since I had to come to work this morning. I'm definitely planning on doing some "learning" with it tonight.

Got lift pumps on her? Cool deal! Time to get her to the track!

Not yet, but see why they are needed.(Smoke is insane) Probably going to go with TTS's set up.

Will it hurt anything to run the Xtreme setting without a LP, for a little while? I have it on the 120 for now. I tried the Xtreme on a test drive with Kenny, but have been in the middle setting since then. I was kinda worried about starving the CP3.

When I was running the Xtreme, it never laid over, or bursted, but I would imagine with that much fuel a lift pump would def. help.
On edit: No track times until I get my sleeves from John@dps. They are supposed to be delivered the 7th on UPS. Gotta work this weekend anyway.

In my expereince if you have a pretty full tank it wont lay over and that was the worse that would happen or it just wouldnt pull hard. You will be able to tell a difference with pumps;) if you think she smokes and is a runner now just wait Dont think it would kill the CP3 it shouldnt bee too bad on it. I'd click her in xtreme and let your trans get used to that and if your worried about it keep the hard throttle runs to a min. JMO

middle is 80hp BTW, one way is Xtreme and the other is 120 or "race"

Slick

Yeah, I definitely figured out the positions, real quick.):h
I know it will run better with pumps, its just a matter of ordering them and installing I guess. I can't wait to see full smoke out of the Xtreme! Without pumps it's pretty "lane clearing" already.):h

I'll guess I'll have to flick the little switch after work then...I don't think everyone here at work realizes how much much smoke is "a lot" when I tell them. It would probably be best just to show them.;)

You won't hurt anything without an LP, but you sure will feel a difference when you install them. I love the TTS pump system in my truck. Glad Kenny took care of you, I expected nothing less from him.:D

TTS's pumps look slick and I would go that wroute if I didnt ave the FM100's. I still might see if I can get the electronics from steve and hook up my pumps to em.

Slick

He sure did. He was excellent to deal with.
I appreciate you always taking the time to talk with me about my trans. It helped a lot.

If you were able to do that Philip, that would be sweet. Do your FM's flow more than the dual TTS pumps? If they did you would have the best of both worlds.

Sorry to get off topic but the FM 100s will not pull fuel through very well when not energized.

No they wont and I dont believe they outflow the TTS pumps. They do enough to get buy though. They do have filtration built into em though. Might just go with the KISS approach and the "I'm a cheap ass appraoch" ):h

Why call the mods? Looks like you took it off the tracks right off the bat! lol

You should run the 80 Hp program until the transmission feels close to shifting good once you reach that point turn it to the 120 Hp. when the shifts stop sliping/Flaring switch it up to the Xtreme and let it finish learning. The more stop and go driving the faster it learns as the open highway does nothing for learning. Enjoy the new toys.

:joke: :thumb: Just joking Mike, that's weird that you can't use smileys.:confuzeld I'd ask "The Janitor" to clean that one up for you.

Steve, what about having it in the 80 for about 10 sec):h . Then 120 for about a day, until it shifted pretty good, then switching to the X? (It shifted better in the Xtreme right from the start, that the 120 did.)

If I have to I will start the learn process over. What do you think would be the best thing to do, now that I'm already running the Xtreme?

Diesel Tech
07-02-2005, 03:58 PM
If it's already in the Xtreme and the shift are good your done, no need to go back again. Just make sure the first time you got WOT to pay attention and not allow it to slip bad. A couple of WOT type shift in the Xtreme that are good and clean and it time to go play, enjoy it.

Slick

My WOT shifts are :ro) , my light throttle shifts are a little quirky still though, any thoughts? Its almost like the tune is so responsive my foot can't keep it "calmed down" enough to get a steady run through the gears. Does that make sense? Maybe its just the nature of a 500 HP/1000TQ beast.:ro) I realize I'm probably not at that level yet without pumps, but it sounds good.:)

On edit: What would a "bad" slip feel like? I've haven't had a shift jerk me around to bad so far.

Mike L.
07-02-2005, 08:09 PM
A bad slip would feel like a flair ( high RPM during a shift ) and trck speed not responding.

This is funny. I seem to be able to post when it agrees with someone, otherwise I get the message that I do not have enough words in my post. The above post was wrewritten 3 times before accepted. This is not the first time.

Now that you've had a taste of real power how would you like to go back to stock?

I guess I haven't had any slips so far. Wouldn't you limp it if you slipped it that much?

Congrats.. With a set of slicks, you'll be able to stand out at most drag strips easily.. Most people just don't expect a diesel truck to fly.. Good luck.. Can't wait to hear some times..

You may get a shift flare at low throttle-NON-T/H on the 2-3 shift...........mine does it , a little less in T/H.............full throttle it's fine.

The Xtreme is my daily driver...........I think it has to do with TQ/Management or my C3's are a little beat up...............:help2:

With the Co-Pilot on it is non existant so it may be TCM programming or something else going on..............it is and has always been the 2-3 shift..........that is C4 coming off ans C3 coming on..........

Morse, no slicks, but I'm hoping 4 all-terrains will have the same or better effect.:)

Tony, I don't know if I would describe mine as a "flair", its like its accelerating normally until it shifts (1-2 or 2-3) then after the shift its like the power is not there as much. It might just be from a very touchy go pedal, that I'm not used too.:confuzeld

But there is zero hesitation on my WOT shifts. I've only had one "hard" shift from 1-2 and that was after driving fairly calmly for a while then getting on it from a dead stop.

"Darkerside" as in dark thick black smoke! (Insert "Rock" smiley)
Sleeves are coming this week, then your pump sometime after, to untap the full "darkside" potential.

Will do Kenny. Are you going to Scheid this year? Maybe we could meet up there. Then you'll get to see the smoke with Steve's pump. Does anyone know dates for this event?

At 1/2 throttle with the converter not locked it will shift a lil strange or does for me anywho.

AT's wont ahve the same effect as slicks but you should be able to out 60's alot of slick tired cars at the track :ro) You aught to make the road trip up to WI for the next DHRA event. A bit of a road trip but fun times.

Slick

I thought Morse just meant slicks for the back. Yeah slicks all the way around would be crazy:cool: . I'd love to ride in the NLDP truck or King D's. Yeah WI is quite a haul. I'm going to try and make it to a local track, in the next few weeks, to get the truck and myself tuned in. After that will definitely try to make some DP events.
