I was watching tv and drinking Friday and really wanted a Blazer. Found this and bought it the next day for $980. Its got an 8in lift and can fit up to 42s. Its no beauty queen and will never be. Going to make some new bumpers that get me road legal and then do hoodrat things with my friends.

The bad: Currently the floor is fiberglass or rust so that needs fixed. Also the drag link ball joint is shot. Tires are dry rotted and bald. Rear window motor is shot. And to top it off one of the front shackles is sheared off on one side in the front.

Now the good things: Did a tune up on the engine and it runs great, deleted the exhaust and neighbors called the cops. Frame is solid and doesn't have the steering box crack. The lift is all leaf and should be worth some money.

Very nice. I used to have 2 full size blazers. I miss them....

I used these for the front shackles:

I bought some weld in replacement floor panels also from LMC truck (I think).

Have fun with your project!

I was a big fan of my old K5, wish I had it back to do more hoodrat things with my friends. And then my friend came in, and he was smokin' a cigarette.

I picked up an '83 3/4T K5 Jimmy last year. Has a 6.2L w/Banks turbo (no smog in CA, which is important!). I also got a spare engine (non-turbo). I haven't had time to do anything to it yet. The steering is shot, but I don't think it's the cracked frame issue - just bad joints or something.

K5s rule.

Those K5's are awesome!! A buddy of mine has one with 35's. His has been a money pit though. He had to put a new crate engine in and redo the interior cuz something went wrong with the carb and it caught on fire. I still want one though. :D

Yes they are money pits. A neighbor at school hates it and keeps on calling the cops and gets B.S. abandoned vehicle tickets issued and then they sneak over and take them off the windshield. So now I have to fight a bunch of tickets.

I loved my 87' K5 (8" all spring superlift with 38" ground hawgs) but they were so rust prone, at least up here in wisconsin anyway. Mine rusted out from the end of the bed-inwards all the way across the bed about 6" in then found out where the cab floor raises up about 6" to the bed floor was rusted in the corners by the seat belts. Right in front of the rear tires (where the floors change from one level to another) there is an opening in the underbody sheet metal where salt, dirt, mud, snow, water can get in and just sit there. That along with the end of bed area are the 2 spots to check when buying a K series blazer. Hope you have better luck than I did on your blazer, top off is a blast in the summer!

I love my 71 K5...! I use it for sand drags and mud bogs. It now has a BB, th400, 205np, 1 ton drivlines, 456 gears(locker in rear) and sitting on 35/17/15 mickey thompsons... I just bought full 1 tones back and front for it, but havent been able to prep them cause the diesel and jeep(rock crawler) keep taking all my money lol

Nice find!!!

Did you have more than liability on it? I don't even notice K5 on my policy.

Insurance is like 250 for liability through the general. Plus neighbors keep on reporting it abandoned.

thats pretty simple to straighten out at the courthouse and issuing police agencies. just make sure it has plates and insurance on it....they know the fawger runs already.

had some ass clowns tagging my shit all the time too....engine still warm right in front of my house with 7 sq pallet of shingles and ladders/air compressor and shit.

250/month or for 6 months??? If it's that bad, do you have minor drivers in the house or a not so clean driving record?

I hear ya, mine was not too good during my college years. It took me a while to learn to slow down (some), and now it's pretty much crystal clear!
