: LLY Predator tune question
I picked up a V2.0 Predator from a member on here.
What's the best tune for increasing fuel mileage. 40 hp or 65 hp?
Issues to watch for?
Should I send it in to get upgraded?
Real benefits after upgrade?
Thanks in advance.
Installed the 40 hp tune and filled up. Went for a 45 mile drive on the freeway at 65 mph using cruise. DIC edged it's way up to 24 mpg. Going to hand calculate this tank and see what it really is. I still need to modify the tune for 265 tires. It would be nice if I really get 2.5-3.0 mpg more.
fishprowler 04-12-2010, 02:49 AM I bought mine and sent it out for an upgrade, I haven't even tried a tune yet. It should be back this week and I'm looking forward to it. You will gain the ability to update yours over the Internet if you get it upgraded. If you have the ability to block EGR codes you will lose that in the newer version. As far as milage goes, from what I've read guys seem to do the best on the 85hp. If you run that high though you're going to have to be careful. I dont think it would be too difficult to limp your trans that high. Seems like everything I've read, most guys get the best mileage on the high tunes on most programmers.
I'm sure someone with al little more experience will chime in soon.
Good luck!

The Predator changes settings that are used to display MPG. Your DIC will no longer display correct MPG unless you install original program again. Do several tanks to check MPG and hand calculate.

Figured it would be too good to be true or everyone would run a Predator. ;)
Anyway's, DIC lied before. Will hand calculate to check.

85 hp tune is real 85 hp at the wheels with Predator. I'm not risking my tranny. Most I will go is 65 hp. Didn't want to sent my Predator in yet as I don't want to lose the ability to block the EGR code. Don't care about the logging. LLY Predator is kind of crippled compared to Mustang Predator. I have both.

Yes Predator tunes are at the wheels, and from what I hear they are very conservative numbers. Staying at 65 is good if you want to be safe. I've heard of lots of guys that have run at 65 for years without issues. When I finally get mine back I will probably run the 65 most of the time. It's all in how you drive, there are a few guys that run the 100hp on a stock trans. Where I live, the highest the speed limit in town gets is 50kmh (which is just over 30mph) so I can run higher tunes and just lock out OD if I wanna have some fun. Whenever I leave town or tow, I'll drop to the 40hp just to be safe. I'm very nervous about 4-5 and 5-4 shifts so I want to stay at the low tune if I'm going to primarily be in those gears.
Got a couple of hundred miles on the truck now with the 40 hp tune. Tranny is shifting very nice now. After I get done with this tank of fuel. I'm going to try the 65 hp tune. :)
blctalon 04-16-2010, 05:17 PM I haven't had a chance to run empty long enough to calculate mpg gained, if any, with my predator. My loads aren't consistent enough and I haven't figured mileage previously with different things/boats I've been towing. I honestly don't expect to pick up much, but I did buy it primarily for an increase in mpg. Truck is strong enough stock but I'll run safe at tow tune so I don't burn up my stock clutch.
Running the 40 hp tune, I got 19.2 mpg around town. Didn't like how it defueled when shifting, so moved up to 65 hp tune. That's a wakeup tune.
DIC is still way off even with tire size corrected. Going to send the unit in and get it updated to current release for 99 bucks.
The 65 hp tune is really different from the 40 hp. It really likes cruising at 70 now. Not too good for mileage.
Is the DIC reading fixed after getting your Predator updated to the most current version? I'm on version 2.0 now and the dic is way off even with the tire size corrected.
I don't want pillar gauges. Anyone have any good ideas where to mount EGT and boost on the console?
fishprowler 04-20-2010, 11:36 AM Getting the revision wont fix the DIC no, all tuners will mess it up. You should send it in for the newest revision if you have v2.0 however. I've been told that v2.0 doesn't do anything to the boost tables, and it defuels hard between shifts. v2.02 and the v9r0X are much better from what I hear.
Lots of people put gauges in the overhead console. Do a search for "overhead + gauges". I know PPE, and I'm sure a couple other companies make the mounts. I've never seen one in person, but from pictures I think they very good. The only downfall over pillar gauges I could see is they might be a little harder to watch because you have to look up.
