: Any "Updated" injector failure?

Is there anyone with an 01 or a 02, with the "newer" and "improved" injectors installed, wich had a second (or third) injector failure?

Is there any way to know by the part number or something else that we did have in fact the newer design injector installed?

They crapped on me at 108,000km and now I'm at 160,000km and everytime I make a delivery (600mi with little or no GM dealer) I'm scared as hell that they will fail on me again or that I didn't get the latest "revision". I had the problem in the summer of 2004 when the injectors where back-ordered everywhere. Somehow, I got mine in 2 days so I suspect that they dumped the old model on me.

Thanks for the info

I had all of mine replaced at 277,000 and 2 went bad at 328,000. The dealer replaced all 8 injectors and sleeves at no charge!

As far as I know, the ones going in are no different then the one's coming out. I asked my Service Manager and that was his response, at least you qualify for the additional Warranty.

I share your concerns... I haven't had a failure yet, but I worry about having an injector failure every time I drive the beast.

I don't have a lot of confidence in the model year 2001/2002 injectors so I went to the local GMC dealer two weeks ago and was told that the new injectors (manufactured after 2004) new and improved. :(

However, I was told that I needed to have a major injector failure "BEFORE" GM would replace them. Just the words I wanted to hear... What about those of us who travel long distances and/or tow heavy RV's. Being stranded is not my idea of fun. Also, what kind of engine damage do you incur when fuel starts pouring into your engine oil sump? I don't enjoy driving with the "BIG AXE" of an injector failure hanging over my head.

I think all Duramax owners need to band together and report all of our injector problem to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) and see if a Mandatory - INJECTOR RECALL can be initiated. We need to take action on this! If the NHTSA doesn't hear about the injector problems, they'll never force GM to do anything about it. ):h
:exactly:

I checked and NHTSA has a vehicle problem/complaint website : www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ (use a dash (-) after the www not a dot (.) in the web address - - You can complete a complaint form online or call one of their reps at: 1-888-327-4236

One other web address to report problems: www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ - go down to the line that reads "If you suspect a defect or problem with your vehicle" then click on the blue type that reads "Here's how to file a complaint about your vehicle right now" - It takes you directly to the problem reporting form.

Also, you can do a GOOGLE search on: NHTSA Vehicle Problem Reporting and select the "IVOQ - File a Complaint" topic.

speedracer: Is that really what your dealer told you? If that's true, that's not very responsible from GM, They show good faith for 320,000km hoping that your have none or only one failure and after that your on you own... That's a big hit on the resale value of the vehicule as well.

SMOKUM- did you have to pay for the replacement injectors at 277,000 miles?

My next door neighbor had injectors replaced six months ago and it's at the dealer for another "new" set right now! They failed so badly that it pumped oil and diesel on to the street from the crankcase! Mine are failing one by one! I see no evidence that GM is solving the problem after three years! After all this time wouldn't you think they'd have an answer just to save their own butts! GM stockholders should be screaming at the way money is being thrown away rather than solving the problem! GM could rename the engine the Duraminimum or the Nondurable! If the word keeps spreading about the injectors, GM will have to give massive discounts to sell a product with a nearly guaranteed failure built in! I had planned to buy an '06, but I won't buy another Duramax until the problem is solved! I'm not one of those, "I love my Duramax no matter how many times I have it repaired for poor quality control!" My Chevy has had 8 repairs in 50k miles largely for poor quality control! I left Dodge because it had '60's 4x4 front end, no rear disc brakes, and a weak auto trans! I can live without GM's products too! Forget buying American as a matter of patriotism! In today's global economy, multinational companies have no loyalty but profit! It's not "unpatriotic" to wonder if the profit interests of multinational companies aren't going to be the tyrants and enemies of democracy in the future! They pull the strings in Washington today! Ask the Saudi royal family!

Oh "*****!" I'm off topic again, but I feel better venting!

Back on topic! How are injectors lasting on the '05 models so far?

Just because there is fuel in the crankcase doesn't mean the injectors are bad. I'd be more inclined to think return lines leaking.(instalation problem).Everyone seems to condem the injectors when replacing them actually fixes the return line leak.Thats why Gm is checking all core returns.

Over 50k miles since replacement. No problems. Runs like a new truck.

Yes, not only did the Dealership tell me this, but GM confirmed it, in a response to a E-mail I sent.

Thank you for contacting the GMC Customer Assistance Center. We appreciate your owning a 2003 Sierra and your interest in learning more about the warranty on the fuel injectors.
According to your warranty manual for the 6.6L Duramax engine, the injectors are covered in California for 5 years or 100,000 miles, or 3,000 hours of operation, whichever comes first. The 2001 and 2002 models only were covered for an extended period under a Special Policy issued by GM.

So for those of you who own 03's and 04's with injector replacements, if your hearing something different from your dealer, check with GM.

"Speedracer", thanks for sharing what the "Helful Folks" at GMC's Customer Assistance Center had to say. You (as a 2003 owner) must have been very angry.

My feeling is that GM knew a while back and surely NOW knows that they have injector/fuel system problems and that they are TIME BOMBS just waiting to happen.

And, since know one seems to know if there really are any newly designed and improved injectors, the problem is not solved. We are all just WAITING for the injector problem to strike us.

Resale value is already affected so the only sound financial recourse we have it to hold on the vehicle and wait for GM to improve and retrofit the injector/fuel system.

Owners can sit tight or end up DOING something (report the problems) to force a recall and force GM to install a reliable fuel injector and associated fuel system.

It's commendable that you are trying to make a difference, and I applaude you for trying, If I hang on to my Dmax long enough, maybe a week or two, but doubt it will be that long till I work out the deal. You should just tell yourself, this is a real easy way to fix this delema: well my way anyway, :muahaha: :muahaha:

Can't thank the General for his unconditional support......

Thanks "Bigwheel" ....

I've tried to provide information on how to go about reporting SERIOUS problems because the problems have persisted soooo long. After 5 years of GM dragging it's feet, the only way to force them to take any meaningful action is for those individuals who are experiencing problems to DO SOMETHING like reporting problems to a government agency - www.nhtsa.dot.gov/
