Hey all. I have an 02, LB7. May look into an 05, with the LLY.

I haven't spent much time in this section at all, because it didn't seem applicable.

Now......

How is the engine? Gas milage? Anything else that I need to know?

With the 06 comming out soon, I might be able to get a deal (I hope) Thinking about a 3500 SRW. Don't need a one ton, but like the whole look of a crew cab, long box.

The 07 will have major body changes if you can wait that long.

What kind of major body changes, Bill?

That scares the crap out of me. I don't like the new style we have now (chevy) vs the 2000-2002 body style.

I have to say that the LLY has been very kind to me. The only things that have gone wrong with mine are the intercooler hose leak, Glow plug module replacement, and the steering shaft TSB. I've never driven a LB7 but I haven't been able to hear the turbo whine on the ones I've been around like I do on my LLY. The only downfal I can think of with an 05 is the possibility of overheating. Otherwise if you are thinking of getting rid or your '02 then go for it.

Max,, I like mine, it was a tough discision to trade my lb7 for an lly, but so far so good. Ive towed 7000lbs (not much) here in colorado and had no overheat issues what so ever.

No problems. Just runs like it is supposed to.

I had an '02 LB7 and traded it for an '05 LLY. The only thing I miss about the LB7 is the fuel mileage. So far, the LB7 averaged about 2-2.5 mpg better than the LLY. The extra power of the LLY is noticable. No overheating so far and I tow regularly.

Overall, I am more than pleased with the LLY. Go for it.

Don't worry, Charley. You'll get told......:D Also, welcome to the site.

Thanx, all. Fuel milage is important to me.

What is/was causing the overheating issues? Has/was it resolved?

Do they have the employee discount promo going on in CA? If so you should make up your mind before July 5th I believe. Maybe you could look into buying one in the US(if thats possible).

The only thing I hear over and over are the overheating issues and that they get a little less fuel mileage than the LB7's.(CAT, EGR-:t) But they have more power. My brother has an '05 and stock vs. stock(when mine was) and its def. quicker.

I`m just a little in a Quandry. I have a `03 Sierra 4.8 and LOVE It. But I`m reading all these Threads about these Overheating Problems and don`t want to get into that MESS. I`m disappointed that GM doesn`t seem to be able to solve the problem

Charley,
I always say, "better a smartazz than a dumb$hit"
I've never driven an LB7, but I love my LLY. I have not had one problem with it in about 6500 miles. Kind of sad that that's all I've driven it, but 4000 of that was towing a 6000 lb boat, and it blows my hair back even though it is bone stock. Just got back from towing up an 8% grade at 7000 ft and the truck did great (once again). Had a car make the turn to this road right behind me and you could tell he thought I'd be slow and that he would pass me on this 2 lane. As you can all guess it just didn't happen.
My only complaint is the mileagle is not up to what guys with LB7s are claiming. I'm at 11.8 on the DIC towing (at 70-80 MPH depending on the road) and 13.2 average (67% towing)

2800+ miles on mine... 16.5 to 19.5 MPG (hand calculated), mainly on rolling country roads... Not enough highway miles to give you an honest figure. I did take an 80 mile trip on level highway and noticed that the milage started decreasing above 75 mph. Stock tires and 3:73 ratio rear.

I originally wanted the CCLB, but after taking it for the "24 hour test drive", decided on the short bed. Turning radius on the CCLB was rather large... Call me a puss, but when pulling a Travel Trailer, or for that matter just general pulling in a parking space, the smaller turning radius the short bed provides makes me a happy camper. 18 inches of bed length was a small price to pay for better maneuverability.

No "overheating problems" with my truck. 95° - 100° mid atlantic heat with the AC on full blast yielded 190° to 198° engine temps (per Edge/Attitude gauge). The stock analog gauge said 205° to 210°.

Good luck with your purchase. Did you consider the '06 with the Allison 6 speed? I don't know what the milage increase would be, but I can already see that one more gear on the highway would help out with the milage!

6 speed?

I haven't kept up on the new things comming out.......

I don't have to buy, right now. Just got thinking about the good deals that should be comming up.

Thanx, guys.

Just picked up my brand new crew cab 4X4 duramax. Drove it from kellog idaho to boise idaho. full tank when I left and fuel light on when I arrived. The display said 16.1mpg and I hand calculated it to 18.5mpg. Pretty damn happy for first tank of gas. I like the ride. it is pretty quite and has pretty good power. I am really impressed. I can't wait to see how it does going to monterey california next weekend pulling a trailor full of bikes. :)

Welcome aboard, badass1000.

See what I mean by "hand calculated". The DIC is so worthless... sometimes it reads high (milage), and sometimes it reads low.

You had better get some miles on it before pulling... Preferably 500+ (you should be pretty close after running one tank full through).

Yes, Max Owner, late '06 (2006.5) is supposed to have a 6 speed Allison tranny with a .61 ratio overdrive... It might be worth the wait!

Just got done with a trip to CT, hauling a 600 lb motorcycle in the bed of the truck. With the bike in the back, I got around 17 MPG. On the way back unladen, I got close to 19 MPG. I'm extremely pleased - my truck has only 1600 miles on it and the mileage will only get better from here.

I've just returned from a camping trip from Yosemite. I have an 8000# travel trailer. Going up was getting 10.5 mpg when on flat road, outside temp was 90 plus in some areas, engine temp did not go over 210, fan came on before the 210 mark. Coming home I was easier on the speed (65mph), got 11 mpg on flat road, outside temp was 102 - 104, engine temp did not go over 210, with fan engaging before getting to the 210 mark. I had the A/C on the whole trip. On the way home, I did hit two 6% grades, engine fan was on and temp went up to 212, that was the hottest engine got going up the grades at 65 mph. The trans temp went up to 200, not bad I guess going up those 6% grades coupled with the high outside temp.

Overall, very happy with the truck, I know have only 4000 miles on the truck. I love hearing the roar of the fan when it engages. KNOCK ON WOOD!!!, the truck has no problems so far. I am planning on paying a visit (1 1/2 hrs away) to MIKE for the bigger trans cooler.

Hey guys,

I'm new to the site and I just pulled the trigger on a 05 crew cab duramax. I got it on the last day of the sell. I bought a 2wd for 31,505 before tax and the other junk. I'm happy to see that some of you are happy with the gas milage. I traded in my expedition which was getting 8 mpg towing and 12 empty. I really hope after I buy the Edge power juice I will get 16-17 in the city and 21-22 highway. After I put some miles on my truck I hope to get 14mpg pulling my 4500lb travel trailer. Are these numbers realistic? Thanks guys.

Hi everybody.

I am also new to the forum and just purchased a 2005 2500HD Crew Cab (2WD) this week. This is my first Diesel. I have always had Chevy 1/2 ton Pickups but all of them have been gas driven. My last truck (2001) had the 4.3L V6. What a difference now. Could not pass up the sales this week. Mine had a $46,000 sticker (LS package but with all the LT options except leather seats) that with the sales and rebates going on cost me $33,000. I have driven it only about 400 miles so far but a am really impressed. So far I'm getting about 15.5 mpg. I am looking forward to hearing everyones opinions on this truck and engine. I know that I will have plenty of questions since this is my first diesel.

Only a few are having overheating issues. I wouldn't worry about it. I towed in 98 degree heights friday, over some steep grades pshing it hard, no issues what so ever.
