i have had this truck for about a year and a half now, 2003 sierra ccsb 4/4 i havnt had many problems. so for the last two months or so my trusty lb7 has begun to puff that nice white smoke at idle...last weekend i had it sitting at idle for a hour or so and it was dumping smoke so im guessing that the injectors are bad, no suprise based on what i have read on this site. another problem arose yesterday, driving home from work low coolant light came on got home let it sit and figured i would check it this morning, walked out and there is a nice size puddle on the drivers side just in front of the wheel. based on the searches i did it sounds like others have had coolant problems and it seems that it is either going to be the head gasket or the water pump...my main question is does anyone live in san diego or knows or a good dealership to take it too around s.d. and if the hg or wp are covered under any kind or warrenty...thanks

Hey RHeiser619, I got a # from a buddy who works on Diesel's in Santee area. His name is Steve @ DSS(Diesel System Services) 619 749-6226. I'm gonna take my truck to him in about a week to check my injectors out. Hope this helps

$1000 to do a waterpump?!?!?!??! Good God, Im in the wrong business. You might, and I mean MIGHT, have $400 in the entire repair (depending on where you buy your pump and tools included) if you do it yourself, and in the end you have some cool new tools!

Shortly after I purchased my '02 LB7 I had a local mechanic:
R&R Water Pump
R&R Power Steering Pump
R&R both thermostats
R&R both upper and lower radiator hoses.
R&R two trans lines
R&R main fan pulley; two idler pulleys, and the tensioner pulley, including new serpentine belt
Flush and fill the coolant system
Change the oil and filterTotal Labor charges ... $750.00
I provided all of the parts ... about $675.00
Hope this gives you some guidance/leverage ... although labor is going to depend somewhat on locale.

If you look at the up front cost and the frequent complicated, expensive repairs...it really begins to look like the gas engine options is a way better deal even if it don't pull as well and get slightly less mileage. Cause the whole "last longer" idea is gone for the newer diesels.
$1000 or even $400 for a water pump job on a pickup is absolutely absurd diesel or not...and at 100K or so miles. I could get 100K on a Ford 300 6cyl water pump. So why aren't these super expensive "HD" diesel components lasting longer?

I don't know where you guys are at but when my trucks waterpump went out I got a oem waterpump for 205 dollars. That or 95 for an aftermarket one. The oem came with a lifetime warranty from the dealership. Total cost was 350. My truck had about 164,000 when it went out.
