: Code P1294...

Hey all..read about doing the "ice pick" mod, but I'm not sure if that will help me?

My truck had all the injectors replaced under warranty by the previous owner at 68ish thousand miles. I'm at 101900 miles now. The other day on the drive home my truck threw a SES light. Today I took it to my buddy who pulled the code..it was P1294...We put it in all data and came back with

"DTC P1294 = Injector Circuit Low to High Current Transition Time Bank 2."

So with a little google Fu I find Diesel Place, and that this is a common problem. I pop my hood and check the taped wiring that is zip tied to the alternator bracket..the tape isn't worn away at all. I checked all the wiring going to the FCIM that I could easily access and did not notice any wear, now mind you I didn't un do the tape and examine the wires closely but I have reason...I was about to put the truck on a AAA tow truck and sent it to the shop for some professionals to fix the problem.

What I don't understand is why there was black soot under the hood and why I'm getting this code if the wires aren't visibly worn?

Thanks for any insight...

how was the truck running? What was it doing when light came on?

Hey there,

The truck prior to the light coming on was doing 19-22mpg on the high way and running with out a hitch. After the light came on while I was driving home it was not in limp mode and generally just driving A OK.

When the light came on I was driving straight at 55mph (the speed limit here) and it was going normally

Got more codes, P0202 , P0300,2,3,5,8 on top of the original code.

I'm sorry I can't help you with the codes all I know is mine went in to limp mode a couple of times. I got on this site and everyone directed me to the ice pick trick. After that my truck has been great ever since.

Ok I'm going to insist on having an ice pick stuck in to it

Use the above link to check for codes, search "ice pick" and you will find lots of people with this issue. #2 and #7 are the most common, but eventually they all will have problems. Front 1-3-5-7 Rear(Firewall) Passenger side, Front 2-4-6-8 Rear(Firewall) Drivers side.

You should also check for the rub through issue on the alternator bracket, very common as well.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks. I was advised what the codes are, misfires and an injector short basically. I've done the research on the Ice Pick mod but is it one of those things that you just do and it maybe works and if not it is something else type things? I just am curious about how it is just the go to solution for any injector code dealing with the #2 injector? Is it due to the GM advisory I read about? I did hear about some minor wear but no visually damaged wires..

What your doing with the ice pick trick is just tightening the connector so it makes good connection. It worked perfectly on mine, I did both #2 and #7 just in case. I did this about 40K miles ago and no problems since. This mod is easy to do and does not cost anything.

If you're getting all of those codes, more than likely your harness has rubbed through on the altenator mount. Pull it off and have a look. Either you've got one or a number of wires that have rubbed through and you're probably looking at a repair before you stick your piece of rad hose on there to prevent it from happening again.

I would agree this is the most likely candidate due to all the codes.

Shoving the ice pick in did the trick
