Well, not just yet, but within a few days......

Ive got a mountain bike rack, and I didnt want to spring for a roof rack. I bought a bolt on class 1 hidden hitch. Looks like it will fit real nice. I will just have to figure out a way to get it from 1.5 in to 2 in for the receiver. Shouldnt be too hard........

Will be nice to go to Mammoth for a short weekend with the cycle, and not have to fill up until I get back home (800+ miles) I think i might have to sneak 2g of biodiesel with me though........

The truck is nice, but for cruising at 85++ and still racking up 45+ mpg, the TDI cannot be beat!

Most good trailer supply places have adapters to go from class 1 to 20 or 3.

All the adapters for 1 1/4 inch receivers are for class 2 hitches not class 1's. The reason being is they put a stop in there so the hole does not line up on the class ones. Using an adapter reduces your capacity by 1/3 to 1/2. That would mean on a class 1 a wieght of only 100 to 140 lbs.

Ya, I dont plan to acually tow anything.......

But the time may come where I want to buy a rack for my motorcycle. The bike and rack pry come close to 350 lbs.

Dont you think that the tongue weight can be increased quite a bit as long as there is no trailer behind the tongue?

I am not sure what Ill do about the adaptation. I think Ill need all of the ground clearance I can get. I cant spare an extra 6 inches out the back, because the rack may scrape. But I know of a guy thats done some custom welding for me before...Ill have to get a good look at it and see what can be done.

If you look at where your hitch is mounted you wouldn't even want to put 200 lbs on it. Most hitches fail not because of the weight being pulled but from the tonque weight exerted on the hitch.

Is this hitch a direct bolt on? If so where did you get it? I would like to put one on mine also to tow a trailer with my dirtbike. I think that a 200lb dirt bike is a little much to have hanging off the back of the car. I have never had 200lbs hanging off the back so I dont know how it will handle it. I would be more comfortable with a light motorcycle trailer that way most of the weight is on the axle of the trailer.

Blue the p/n of the hitch you are looking for for your Jetta is a Draw-Tite 24680 or 24748. There is some drilling required on the 24680

I got a hidden hitch from etrailer.com

Cost 130 shipped.

It is 1-1/4, so ill still have to figure out how to get an adapter.........

But the primary purpose is to transport mountain bikes. I dont even own a dirtbike rack.

I cant see more than 150 lbs on the back with 3 bikes on there, including the cost of the rack.

Some people tow quite a bit with the TDI. There is a lot of talk about it on the tdiclub. In europe, the A4 is rated for 3500 lbs.

Just for your info Draw-Tite, Reese, and Hidden Hitch are all the same company owned by Cequent Towing. The only real differences in the hitches is the finishing process.

I didnt know that.......I read on the tdiclub that the hidden hitch puts the rest to shame as far as aesthetics, and rust resistance.

Oh well, they all were pretty much the same price anyway.

I just have to get the balls in line to drill 3 holes in the belly of the car..........

I bought a hitch receiver from etrailer.com for my Golf. It bolted on real nice. I use mine to trailer a dirtbike on a small light trailer. Can't even tell it's there while towing.

350 pounds sounds like a lot

Just made a 750 mile trip........I had the A/C on 3/4 for 90% of the trip, and I climbed a lot of hills. Ran B50, and got 42 mpg. Kept around 75 mpg on the highway, but there was some city in there.........Ran great.

Had two bikes on the rack, prolly added some aero drag.

Chuckles. So did he align the hole up in the new pipe with the old one and you just use an extra long pin?

Looks good.
