: Dsg Stud Girdle
fierce legend 04-07-2010, 06:06 PM My dsg stud girdle kit arived in the mail today. I was wondering how I should install it. Any suggestions anyone? The instructions that come with it say to thread the studs into the block by hand untill they bottom. then to install the girdle. It says with moly lube to torque the nuts to 80ft ibs with moly lube or 120ft ibs with enigine oil. It seems to me that there is a huge difference in lubrication between the 2. This is a 1982 6.2l block with 12mm holes. Should I buy the moly lube? or would you trust the higher torque with the engine oil more?
Also wich web nut should I torque on first and then to wich other one and so on and so on?
Could I start off torqueing them at 40ft ibs on all, them work up to 80ft ibs?
Diaric 04-07-2010, 07:40 PM there was a write up some where, probably on here about head bolts and the differences in the lubes.trust them the same, i know it seems like a big difference. follow the book torque sequence and do in that order. i used the lube as i had it for the head studs and i just did the mains in sequence and in the steps listed, but did the studs lower in each step. don't know if it was right, but it made sense to me
Work in a circle going from inside to outside . Start with the number 3 main cap and 1 inner bolt . So , do both inner bolts , both outer bolts and then move on to the next main . Do them in steps and move in a circle for the rest of the caps . Something like 3 - 2 - 4 -1 and finally 5 . Alway work from the inside out .
fierce legend 04-08-2010, 01:29 AM The motor is already complete. Im just going to take the outter cap bolts out and replace them with the studs. Theres 3 holes in the girdle. So I torque the middle web first and then torque the other 2 after?
Im confused so heres a picture. Please show me what sequence.
If possible make your own picture and show me the steps please and thank you.
Half Max 04-08-2010, 04:38 AM would this work? on my intake it was crazy how it showed the order on how to tighten them but maybe this will?

no, do the center first, then the ones beside it and just bring it up to torque in steps
boatmechanic 04-08-2010, 09:01 AM there ya go

4320Diesel 04-08-2010, 11:44 AM and you misspelled his name in that big explosion of lettering.
fierce legend 04-08-2010, 12:48 PM Great now what should the 1st torque ft ibs be? and how many graduations should I do before I goto 80ft ft ibs? Also should I put moly lube on the threads going into the block or is motor oil fine? and you guys are sure that 80 ft ibs with moly lube is better than using motor oil at 120ft ibs?
Diaric 04-08-2010, 09:13 PM its not better, its equal. the same. i'd have to look at the stock steps to figure it out. whaterver they were, i'd just downplay the numbers so it was done in steps like the factory bolts
Diaric 04-08-2010, 09:14 PM dairic is right!!!!!!!!

If you don't have all the studs in for your girdle, measure the length of a stud and the thickness of the girdle. Post em up.....:D
4320Diesel 04-08-2010, 10:31 PM haha your head got big lol. yea we have no lives so we look at pictures of internals of engines.
