I keep hearing different stories on when the upgraded engines and 6 spd allison are coming out. Can anyone give some insight on the time frame?

Thanks, John

I would GUESS that both the info for the motor upgrade and the trans upgrade have already been present that it would be a sure thing for the 06 model (vs. 06.5). It is my understanding that the 06's will be produced pretty soon. I don't have an exact date. If you are trying to get the latest and greatest, you may want to hold off for a long while because I believe we are going to see some amazing numbers from the big 3 in the next few years. You will not be disappointed whether you get one spec's out like an 05 or one with all the enhancements like an 06 will be!

Hi Reineke,

By next year (probably March or April of '06'), I will be in the market for the truck of my dreams, an 06 GMC 2500HD Extended Cab with the power package.

If you guys have any inside information, I would be interested in hearing it.

Thank you,

Pete..:)

Hey there! Sounds like if you order your dream truck in those months, you will most definately be getting an 06 Dmax with all the upgrades, which I am sure you know of. Not too much inside info given out, it is mostly scuttle butt until the general releases the information to the dealers. At that time, it becomes concrete. One main thing I would SUGGEST is to compare your ex-cab that you want to a crew cab. I am a single guy who loves his CC. It may not be for you, but you may use it more than you think. It is just something to check out before commiting! Good luck with your purchase, and if you have any questions about the ordering or buying process, don't be afraid to ask, it really is a simple process!

Hi Reineke,

I'm hoping my buddy purchases my classic car by then. I'm going to use that money for a down payment.

I can't wait to get it. As far as the crew cab, it is a little to big for me. As of now, it's only me and my wife and we do plan on having kids soon. She want's a small SUV so that would be good to fit kids in..:)

How much more is the crew cab compared to the extended cab? Correct me if I'm wrong, there is a 10 inch difference in length.

I'm hoping there will be an employee program next year (similar to the one we just had).

If you hear of any inside information, please let me know.

Thank you for your help.

Pete,
You can build your truck on gmbuypower.com to give you an idea the cost differences between the ex cab and crew. You will find many people that really enjoy their CC's even though they don't have a full house. I was unsure of whether I NEEDED it, but after the first "hot shot" trip with it and sleeping in the back, it was well worth it and really fit my needs. Plus when my parents come to visit, we can all load up comfortably in the cab. I would recommending both. See if the 10"s really slows you down and if it fits in your storage needs. It is all up to you on which one fits your needs best! Personally, I really doubt that GM will have the Employee Discount for everyone next year. The new and improved 1500's will be out and they won't want to be cost cutting those. I believe that this deal was to greatly reduce inventory on those dated fuel guzzling trucks before the new ones come in. BUT! There are other deals that will get you close. There are people on here who have access to codes that they can give you so you can get pricing CLOSE to what they are offering now. It won't be as sweet as a deal, but if the rebates are good, it makes the deal even better. I work for a supplier for GM and I get a Supplier Discount. Every now and then, they let us get friends and family a code. It is about 86% of MSRP (minus rebates at the time) and if you can't find a better deal, let me know when you get ready to purchase and I can see if I can get you a code.

Hi Reineke,

I'm not sure about the two trucks. I'm not concerned about the extra weight, but more so the length. I need to do some measurements and drive them both. Where I park at work, there is a parking garage with seven floors. From floor 2 - 7, the clearance is 6 ft. I'm going to try for the first floor because the clearance there is 15 ft!.

Thank you for offfering me the supplier discount code. That is really nice of you to do and I will probably take you up on it..:) Lets keep in touch!

Also, can you tell me what your likes and dislikes are about your truck?

Thanks again,

Pete..:)

P.S. How far away is Trenton from Houston Texas? I will be in Houston for training from September 11th to the 17th. Maybe we can hook up!

Pete,
Trenton is about 4-5 hours from Houston. I don't have anything going on then, so I may be up for something. Go with the truck that fits you best. Many recommend the CC as you may know, but some prefer the EC. Check them both out and find the best one for you. Things I don't like about my truck is the GM paint. It seems to scratch and chip easy, at least for the first 6 months. So if that doesn't bother you too much... I like how the truck drives, really easy. It is comfortable and all the gadgets are easy to use are are easy to find. It has great power and pulls really well! I prefer to drive my DMax over my 2000 Z28 and the quality between the 2 are light years apart. The interior in the Silverado may be the oldest in the market, but it works really, really well! It is made for consumer use and not a candy butt driving a truck just because it is cool. I researched what options I needed, wanted, and could live without before ordering my Silvy. I have no regrets and would buy another tomorrow if the situation presents itself. I will not be going anywhere, so when you are getting close to needing the code, let me know and I will research it and see what I can do. Good luck with this, and feel free to ask questions, that's why we are here!

Reineke,

4 - 5 hours is pretty long but it would be nice to meet some of the people on the forum.

The paint chips would bother me a little but one of the first things that I would do to the truck is 'clay it' and perform a seven stage wax job. The last truck 'new' truck that I owned was a 2000 Dodge Dakota and I did the same to it. The process took me 8 hours to do but boy, what a difference it made. little rocks would bounce off of it without leaving scratches or knicks. For more information on it, go to http://www.zainobros.com and read what they have to say..:)

I will need to drive both trucks. The heaviest thing I will be towing is two ATV's and a trailer which equals 1200 lbs and someday, another classic car..:) I probably don't need a diesel but want one for it's durability and fuel economy.

I'm thinking it would be either March or April of next year. I will be sure to notify you when I'm getting close to order the truck.

My plans are to pay for the truck in mostly cash and maybe finance a little (between $5,000 - $10,000) tops. My credit is excellent with a credit score of near 750 so if I should finance, I'm hoping I can receive like 0% interest.

Thanks again for your help and answers on your likes and dislikes of the truck. Now is 2006, is GM changing the body style of the 1500 series only?

It's good that you have the patients to make your truck shine like that. I bet it sure would look great upon completion. I live on a gravel road, so that would explain most of the chips and the lack of desire to make the truck shine for 3 minutes.

Model year 2006, the halfies are getting the HD nose. I hate it to death, but nothing I can do about it. MY 07 1500's are coming out in early-mid 2006. The latest and greatest HD's are coming out about 9-12 months after the 1500's in 2007 (as 2008's I think....but I could be wrong [2006.5 and 2007.5's] but then they would have to retool).

I believe 0% financing is a thing of the past as far as car loans go, but you can still get a good one. I have a house, perfect credit (use to know my credit score, but I bet it has changed since then) and I got 4.45%. I think 3.99 was the best at the time. You may find what you are looking though if you search, I didn't have to time, so I went through my credit union. Good Luck!

On edit, the special offers include:
$3,000 Cash Allowances
or 0.0% APR for 36 Months (2)
or 1.9% APR for 48 Months (2)
or 2.9% APR for 60 Months (2)
or 4.9% APR for 72 Months (2)
So if you can get a 3 year note, it is possible. Wasn't an option for me, but it sounds like it could be for you.

Hi Reineke,

When it comes to cleaning and autos so much so that I drive my wife nuts..:), I'm very patient because I want them to look good and last a long time and I will end up keeping the truck for a long time..:)

Thats weird that GM will be replacing the nose on the 1/2 ton trucks to look like the 3/4 and one ton trucks. I assume this will be the same for GMC too.

As far as the 07 trucks, I've read what other people have been saying about it looking like a Dodge and or Ford. That would be interesting to see.

My goal is to put about $25,000 down on the truck and most likely finance the rest of it for a duration of three years and try and take advantage of all of the rebates and hopefully getting the 0% financing :) . I'm going to be very smart about my purchase. I'm going to do my research and see how I can purchase this truck the cheapest, either by supplier discount or Amway's Everyday Advantage program where you only pay $50.00 above invoice.

I would purchase a good used one with low miles, it's just that I want specific options, like auto climate control and the power moonroof. I've only seen one 2500HD with the power moonroof. From what I understand, they are pretty rare.

My wife doesn't like financing vehicles. Her philosphy is if you don't have the money up front, simply don't buy it. That is true to a sence but I would like something new, especially if I'm selling my 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 with only 58K original miles.

Please keep in touch. I'm hoping we can hook up while I'm in Texas the week of Sept 11th. I would like to see your truck..:)

So what other things are you interested in? Are there any nice ATV riding areas in Texas?

Thank you,

Pete

Pete,
You sound just like me when starting to research the truck that you want! Have you found a good dealer yet? That took longer than I thought for me. Someone on this forum recommended a guy at the dealership that I bought mine from and I thought that I would never find him. I was asking my parents what they thought of the buckets vs bench seating. Then this guy come out all sweaty because it was hot out and takes time with me to show me the differences between the two. This guy was the same one that was recommended. I knew I found a good salesman at that time. We talked more about fishing than we did about the truck, and I don't fish! It was nice to buy the truck as I wanted without it being sold to me. My next Chevrolet will be from that guy! I would only hope that everyone would have an enjoyable experience like I had.

I too have read that the new Chevy nose will look big riggish, watch for the GMC line to look more relaxed for the people who prefer that. If they can pull it off to look good, more power to them. I can't wait to see pics and I am willing to wager that they will look nothing like what the 1500's will look like.

The Amway discount will beat the supplier discount. You should find out if the Amway discount will allow the rebates offered at the time of if that will be the final cost. The Amway vs the Sup. with rebates compared, the Sup will pretty much win, unless the rebates are $1000, then they would be about equal.

You will appreciate the truck so much more if it is something you order. Since you are looking at an early spring time frame, they may try to sell you one already built, close or exactly like the one you want. If you want it a certain way, be firm and make them order it for you, if there is one exactly like it near by, have you decision ready. I think it is really cool at the fact that mine was built for ME just the way I wanted it!

Your olds is making me drewl! Sounds like a really sweet ride. Do you have any pictures of it?

Sept. 11th so far is working for me. If I have nothing scheduled and nothing going on around the house, what the heck! Things may change though for me and I will keep you posted.

Other things I am interested in are Chevrolets for one. I have a 57 210 (majorly needs resto) a 71 Stingray with the original motor and factory 4 speed, a 90 Z71, and a 00 Z28 A4. My truck would probably have more crap on it if it weren't for those others...

For my spare time, I ride an 05 YFZ450 SE and when going to tracks that don't allow the YFZ, I ride a small RM85. There are quite a few tracks around my area, I don't know about Houston though. Too hot to ride right now anyway. What do you ride?

Hi there Reineke,

The Amway Everyday Advantage program 'does' include factory rebates, at least they did back in 2000 when I bought my Dakota. They will even tack on other things like collage graduate programs, in which I took full advantage of.

Another neat thing about the Amway program is that when you special order your truck, it will specifically say on the window sticker 'Special built for [Your Name]'. I think that is nice and it does make you feel special..:)

As far as being firm, I will be firm as a rock because if I'm spending near 35K on a truck, I will be sure to get exactly what I want..:) I do have a dealer in mind and they are pretty reputable.

Wow, you have allot of toys. both the 57 210 and Corvette sound nice. Please click on the link below. This is one of my test web sites that I've been working on in the past. The Dakota has been sold about three years ago. http://IronBear442.homestead.com/IronBearWebPage.html The pictures need to be updated but you will have a general idea.

The reason that I'm selling it is because I lost interest in it. Someday, I will purchase another car, maybe an old Buick GS or Riviera with a 455.

As of now, I don't have a quad, but I had my share of sport quads/trikes like a Raptor 660, 400EX, Warrior 350 and Tri Z 250. My last machine was a Kawasaki Prairie 650 V-Twin. My next machine will be a sport utility, most likely the Prairie 700 because I like the SRA (Single Rear Axle) instead of the independant rear suspension. And I agree it's very hot to ride. I like to ride in the fall when the leaves are falling..:)

The YFZ450 is a really nice machine. I know of someone who has one and he loves it and it's very fast. Did you hear about the new Raptor 700 FI.?

Yes please keep in touch about the week of September 11th. I'm also going to meet up with my cousin who just moved to Texas. I'm going to be there from Sept 10th - 17th.

Pete

Pete,
That is one SWEET olds! It sure looks great. I did hear about the 700R and they also improved the YFZ some by uping the displacement to 449 instead of 439cc's. They added some other stuff, but not enough for me to drop mine. There is so many aftermarket stuff for those things that I could keep mine for a long time and make it just as good. It just takes money, right? Anyway, that Amway deal sounds pretty good. When you are out there comparing, you can ask for the invoice to any truck on the lot that is close to the one you will order and you can check the supplier discount to see how that will stack up against the $50 above invoice. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you for the complement Reineke. I've owned the car since 1992 and only put about 10K miles on it.

At this time in my life, I'd rather have something new that I can drive and my new love is trucks. Hopefully by March or April of next year, I will have the truck in my possession.

The Amway discount is good but I'm still going to compare apples to apples with the supplier discount.

When you have a chance, send me an email with your telephone number so I can call you when I'm in Texas. I would like to see your truck and meet you.

Thanks,

Pete
