Attempting to upload 2 photos of my recent fuel filter experiment.
This filter only had about 1900 miles on it and if the photo comes up, you can see that it is already full of crud one third of the way up. Scary!
The BAD NEWS is that my first filter had 15,800 miles on it when it was changed... I had the dealer replace it because it was on soooo tight. As a result, I never got to see how dirty that one was.
After seeing this, I ordered the Nicktane Filter Kit and installed it the day after I received it. No wonder the Duramax injectors are having problems. Exra filtration surly can't hurt !!!

In case you have problem getting replacement Cat filter yopu might considrer a Baldwin BF 7587 rated at 1-2 microns. Haven't tried one yet but if the price is right I'll try onr. That picture looks bad, mine looked thatway at 6kmiles.Now with Nicktanes kit the OEM shows hardly any use at 5k.Going to run 10k plus onthe set up thats in there now.Have put only a little over 18k on my rig in two years so filter changed will be few and far between.

lfetchen,
I too experienced the same thing with my fuel filter. I change mine every 5000 miles along with the oil and oil filter. The attached pix is of my filter with only 4200 miles on it. Could be two things; the filter is doing a helluva job or most likely the fuel is dirty where I fill up. I'm trying a different station for my next 5000 miles.
Was the Nicktane system hard to install or was it pretty straight forward? Been debating installing since I found my filter in its' last state.

The new kit is not to difficult to put on. There's a little learning curve on using the special wrench to get the old fuel line connectors disconnected. You don't have to drop the tank like some say, just bend the stone guard back. It alao makes it easier to take the fuel cooler loose to unhook the tank output line at that end. I was 75 when I put mine on and if I'd been 50 it would have been a piece of cake.Niicktanes kit is a good investmment.

See the "Nicktane" thread on this web forum for more detail about installing the Kits. I'm not very mechanical, but was able to install the kit in about 3 hours.
