On a 6.2, are the exhaust ports symmetrical if from front to back? Meaning would it be possible to put the manifolds on upside down? Would there still be access to the glow plugs?

I had this idea after looking at the two posts about budget twin turbo setups that further cost and fab could be cut down if one were to take the exhaust manifolds off, put the left on on the right side and the right on the left, and mount upside down. Think of it as the same at the horns on a Watusi. Then manifolds exits would be pointed towards the radiator of the truck and at the top of the motor. Then build a mount from the now exposed exhaust flange. This would place the turbos at an optimum location.

The potential advantages of this if it were to work would be: Less fabrication by using existing manifolds with out having to scavenge the yards to find or custom fab a set. Also, the factory cast irons would provide a sturdy mounting point for the turbos in a good location and the factory iron would provide a reasonable flow when compaired to the cap and tap method that one guy did or the angle iron method that the other guy did.

So in summary, is it possible to even mount the manifolds like this and would the glow plugs still be accessible?

won't work, you'd have an upsidedown turbo trying to exhaust forward. nothing would clear the frame

I don't think you follow what I am saying. It appears that you have just switched the right to left. I ment just turn them upside down. I didn't make that clear. Instead of the flange facing down and towards the tailgate the flange would face up and towards the hood.

Don't switch side just mount them upside down.

Again, would it be possible to acess the gp? Are the ports the same distances?

still don't follow, is your turbo now on the drivers side, or upside down on the passenger side. either way won't work.

the 6.2/6.5 cylinder heads are the exact same, same part# for both sides.

so any exh manifolds will fit any 6.2/6.5 head in almost any position. the only big issue with changing positions of manifolds is all the objects/parts surrounding it you will come in contact with.

I have a driver's side 6.5 turbo manifold on my passenger side head, facing forward (clears all pulleys/serp system) on my 94 car for the turbo system. works very well, no issues.

many different combos to try. could be an easy way to build a nice budget turbo kit for any 6.2/6.5.

good luck.

edit: most 6.2/6.5 manifolds will also clear glows/injectors/lines when mounted "flipped" (but if you think about it a 6.5 turbo(passenger's) manifold IS basically a "flipped" upwards style)

incorrect. the 6.2's exit at the rear of the manifold. when they went to NBS trucks, the exhaust dump was about a cylinder further forward

Technically yes they will bolt on flipped upside down. No they will not clear the glow plugs believe me I've tried. One guy in a recent caddy build is going to use flipped hummer headers. You may want to look into that. I have another build Im planning for a 6.2 in a car of mine and I plan to use flipped hummer headers if caddy guys build pans out well.
