I have the optional heated tow mirrors with the turn signal in the top (flat) mirror, and the unheated lower convex mirror segment.
Can anyone tell me how to dissassemble these? I want to modify the top section electronics, and add a heater element to the bottom segment.

Im working with my Koolvues, but I think factory are similar. This is a link about leveling mirrors, but shows some breakdown. I hope it helps.

Thanks!
I also found: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=142318
which had it all.
I did want to add that I did not use a hammer. I was able to push it in at the top, then just push it straight up with my thumbs instead of the hammer. I put some silicone grease on the tabs, and it pops out easily with my thumbs now, but retains well.

What are yall doing about the lower glass? In that last thread posted, it says you cannot get the bottom glass out without breaking it???? What are yall doing to keep from breaking it?

I took a 1/4" drive ratchet and found a socket that my torx bit fit in securely and used that to get underneath the mirror.

If I remember correctly after removing the rails the plastic piece that the lower mirror is attached to is removed. I think there were 5 screws holding them on. Not sure what style fastener for GM mirrors but Kool Vue mirrors are Phillips screw. The two located on each side at the top of the small mirror can be difficult to remove. I was able push the mirror out of the way and get in there with a screw driver on mine.

Ok, I tore apart the mirrors lastnight. I used a combo of the 1/4" swivel, plain rachet with 1/4" socket and torx bit, and regular nutdriver to get to the screws.. Definitely was not as hard as I had expected. Thank you for all the help
