: Where Are The Good Diesel Mechanics?
NCMax 01-09-2004, 09:28 PM Gents, Just read a post from one of the members asking for advice on a good diesel mechanic in Oregon.
It got me to thinking that we might want to consider adding a section where we could post recommendations on where to go (nationwide) for good diesel service.
I know that a guy I ride with who works at one of the two local Chevy dealers told me not to bring my truck to them, since they don't have a school-trained diesel mechanic. I don't know anything about the other local dealer (I didn't buy my truck from either of them), so I'm rolling the dice when it comes time to get the truck worked on.
Just thought I'd toss it out to see if it's worth considering.
Chris in NC
P.S. - if anyone can recommend a good diesel mechanic in eastern NC, please let me know. Thanks

GMCSID 01-11-2004, 03:58 PM Okay Sid, I need to know the who and where of the guy in Charleston, S.C.!!!!
It's called Michael Chevrolet in Summerville, SC.
"The tech's name is Steven Mayes, but call him Buzzard. Also, tell him to ask for Zach Strickland, he's our best service advisor. Phone is 843-873-1810."
I got this info from one of 176 nationwide World Class Technicians on the GM Technicians forum. He doesn't work on Duramax but he says they have a top notch tech that does.

Summerville, SC 29483
John R 01-11-2004, 07:00 PM I know of one but unfortunately he's A GMC mechanic and at the time he can't work on Chevy's for warranty items.
The mechanic at the dealership where I bought my truck knows nothing about the engine or trans.
I wish I would have known this before I bought it.
Oh Well, live and learn.
Reel World 01-11-2004, 07:13 PM GMCSID is this list of 176 World Class Technicians available to find someone in each of our areas who could do Duramax work ?
GMCSID 01-11-2004, 07:23 PM The list is here.
http://www.gmstc.com
But it's only broken down by regions.
FirstDiesel 01-11-2004, 07:57 PM Thanks SID, I'll keep him in mind if I have a real problem. To date the local dealer has done okay but I've not needed any DMAX work, thankfully.

SS396 01-12-2004, 03:18 PM GMCSid, not able to access the site you provided. Who, if any, are listed in the Seattle area? I am hoping Art Gamblin Chev has a good tech, I bought my truck from them and they are top notch people.
I haven't had any problems with my rig yet at 16K miles, hope I never do, nice to know if a good tech is up my way, though.
Thanks for you help.
ronbuick 01-12-2004, 03:44 PM How about the Boise Area??

But it is still only broken down to the state level after you click on the region.

Sid,
do you have first hand experience with that guy in WA or know of someone who has worked with him ?
Also, anyone know of other DMAX mechs in Washington ?
GMCSID 01-17-2004, 01:22 PM Alki, I don't know the tech in WA. I do know Daryn, his foreman, and he says he's a good tech with very few combacks.
Bronco 01-17-2004, 01:30 PM I heard they were all hired buy Toyota to work on the 05 TUNDRAMAX. Thats a jokehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif of course. Toyota is going to release a Fullsize Diesel very soon. Maybe this added compettion will motivate GM management to support it's technicians moreso. I am thankfull for all of you technicians that hang out on this site. You guys are needed and appriciated. Edited by: Bronco
Man I hope I get a chance to look for some of those guys before I need one, of course there's always the chance one of them works for my dealer....
Pretty slim though, there's only five guys listed for the whole State of Utah. Not many people here, but it's a pretty large geographical area.
GMCSID 01-17-2004, 04:58 PM Just because there might not be any world class techs in your area doesn't mean there aren't any good diesel techs. Most of the world class techs are usually gas engine driveabily/electrical techs. They are the ones that have taken the time to do all the GM training and learn about all areas of the vehicles. A lot of good diesel techs focus their training on diesel engine.
