: '03 Injectors
Dmaxducker 06-30-2005, 11:26 AM I was wondering for those of you that have '03's that are approaching 100k, have you given any thought to injector coverage issues. Would you consider trading up to a newer Duramax or are you counting on GM to cover '03's to 200K like they did with '01 and '02's? I've got a little ways to go yet but the thought of getting a new Duramax when I hit 90-95K next year has entered my mind if no increase in injector coverage is made by GM. I suppose if the loss in depreciation if I sold the truck was greater than the cost of getting new injectors then it wouldnt make much sense to do that. Just wondering if anyone else had thought about this.
habanero 06-30-2005, 01:36 PM Personally, I'm going to ride her 'till she bucks me. I hate buying a new vehicle. Well, I guess that is to say, I hate paying for a new vehicle-don't mind driving one.
speedracer 06-30-2005, 05:48 PM Well, at this point contrary to rumor, they are not covering the 03 or 04 Lb7 injectors with the additional Warranty. I am like you, wondering if I want to have the expense of worrying about paying for another set of injectors at $3000 a pop. But unlike you, if this stays the policy, I may still sell of trade in but I am buying another brand Diesel, I paid a bunch of extra $$$ for this engine, and to worry about it approaching 100,000 miles for a Diesel is absurd. Maybe 200,000, would be understandable.
I might be the only one PO'ed about this, but I have the 2nd filter, the additives, christ I take better care of this engine then I do myself, and still the injectors dumped at 60,000 miles. So not a big confidence builder here. GM got a triple play with this power train, but has not hit a home run, Longevity is the name of the game here, and these injectors are to pricey to have to replace them every 60,000 miles, I hope they reconsider this policy.
dsquared 07-01-2005, 12:28 AM ok, So i just had to tow in my 03 2500hd because of bad injectors at 52000. I had to fight it out with the dealer and call GM to get the warranty coverage. They are covering the injectors on 03's for the extended period, but only will replace the bad injectors as they fail. They told me they will not pay to do them all at once. :( I will continue my fight with Gm since the dealer told me it's going to take about 5 days to complete the project cause of parts delays.
tophog 07-01-2005, 12:42 AM I think as more 03's get more miles on them GM will have no choice but to cover the 03/04's. I really don't see how they are any different regarding failing injectors ...just many more with fewer miles compared to the 01/02's. If they don't extend it and make it right they better get out of the diesel business. I agree, having to worry about something like fuel injectors on a diesel is ridiculous. "Built like a Rock" ...yeah, right.
Trippin 07-01-2005, 01:09 AM I had all of mine replaced at 45,000 IIRC. Balance rates were up to 11 on some. GM picked up the tab without a problem. I don't know about an extended warranty like the 01/02s though.:(
gottago 07-01-2005, 07:41 AM I currently have 96,000 on my 03. I thought about this but will keep it to see what they come out with for 07. At this rate Toyota may have a diesel by then and if GM stay's on the current course they may end up being owned by Toyota. In my opionion they are getting there a**es kicked by the imports now.
4x4man 07-01-2005, 09:38 AM I have no plans to trade mine once out of warranty, unless it nickles and dimes me. I paid off the truck a couple of months ago, so I am starting to get used to this no truck payment thing. Not to mention no cat, egr on my 03....

I have no complaints with the dealership I bring my truck to, they have been great. They have to write it up in such a way as to have GM approve it, stuff like dumping fuel into crankcase, multiple injectors, bad balance rates on the the rest of them. I got all 8 replaced, but my feelings are, whats the difference between 01,02, and 03,04's. Minor differences, but notheing that has to do with the Injectors, same animal.
So I am sure at least I hope GM, looks at the D/A and say, Heck, we managed to capture 25% of the Diesel truck market, its an awesome powertrain, the allison is great, the duramax seems to have few other faults, but these friggen injector failures are a problem, lets redesign the buggers and lets take care of the folks who threw caution to the wind and bought the early LB7 engine, with an extended warranty like the 01,and 02's. This would keep the resale up, put some water on the fire thats starting to burn my arse. Just my 02's
lfetchen 07-01-2005, 03:22 PM See "Maxter's" thread on "Updated Injector" failure... I think we need to get together as an organized group of Duramax owners and report the injector failures to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) !!!
:exactly:
Check GOOGLE for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Website - The injector problems can be reported online www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ (use a dash (-) after www not a dot (.) like other web addresses); or you can call NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 and speak to a rep DIRECTLY!

idahofox 07-02-2005, 02:25 AM Get a life. Your covered for 200,000. How many miles do you have now ?

Thanks Idahofox... I'm just one of many owners. There are many Duramax owners out there sitting on injector failure "Time Bombs" that because of GM design problems could become stranded of seriously inconvenienced by an untimely injector failure.
Personal Safety and Confidence in one's own vehicle is another issue. I don't want my wife stranded somewhere if the engine shuts down and I sure do have a lack of confidence in the vehicle.
It's ok to disagree with my opinion, but your "get a life" comment of off base and shows a lack of understanding of other people's view on GM's fuel injection system problems. If you haven't had a problem... I'm happy for you. Others may not be in your same boat!

PS: It's nice country out there in Idaho. I spent 6 months in the Idaho Falls area back in the early 1970's at the U.S. Navy's Submarine Nuclear Reactor Training site out in the desert. Beautiful Country !!!
