: loving life today..... 26.5 MPG and $2.50 per gallon
knaffie 04-05-2010, 07:34 AM I had some extra time this morning, so I decided to see if I could up my mileage figures on my usual weekly commute route. I always do hand calculation at fill up and it always matches the dash with .3. I have been consistently getting 19.5-20 running 75 MPH and driving normally (some liberal use of the skinny pedal at times).
Soooo….. today I topped off, crawled slowly out to the highway, took about 2 full minutes to get up to 60 MPH, set the cruise and never changed speed for the next 100 miles. The route starts out with some gentle hills, then eventually goes completely flat. I then pulled off the highway, topped off again, and calculated 26.3 MPG. Dash said 26.5, as shown below. 50 degrees F with no wind today. Absolutely incredible!
This truck is just amaxing and continues to impress me more every day I drive it. Now, if I only had the patience to drive this slow all the time…..
I also love getting fuel at Ammex at the Ambassador Bridge. Nothing like paying $.50 a gallon less than anywhere else!

Dieselhillbilly 04-06-2010, 09:00 PM I have yet to ever see more than 17 miles per gallon from my truck. My every day mileage is 13 miles to the gallon loaded with my tools, utility cap with two ladders on top. If I unload it and take the ladders off and get on the big road hold it steady on 60 to 65 it will do 17 with no wind. I also know some other fellows who have Duramax engines, they say thats what they get 15 to 18 miles to the gallon. I do believe that I buy clean diesel fuel. I changed my big cat filter at 15000 miles the other day it had about a thimble full of water in it. I do not think that a 7000 pound 4 wheel drive big block v8 engine going 60 miles an hour will get any better mileage than that.

But they can. Driving style has a TON to do with it.
knaffie 04-06-2010, 09:37 PM Yes indeed they sure can.
Dieselhillbilly 04-07-2010, 06:46 AM No way.
knaffie 04-07-2010, 06:52 AM Doesn't bother me a big you're not a believer. There are a whole pile of people on this forum getting better mileage than you and your other fellows.
sasrocks 04-07-2010, 12:11 PM I believe it.
mmangels22 04-07-2010, 03:17 PM So you went 100 miles only? How bout a full tank of fuel?
MAX4X4 04-07-2010, 04:09 PM I did the same thing a while back. Difference is my truck is not stock. Check it out:

add some monster diesel and you will end up with 30 MPG. according to TwistedLogic101 (and monsterdiesel's website), it increase your "fuels potential":confused::confused:
knaffie 04-07-2010, 04:48 PM I might give monster a try, after it gets some more feedback. For now, Stanadyne is doing just fine for me and I have half a case of it left.

There ya go, 20 MPG on 35" tires.
Its possible, but its not easy to do. Self control is the hard part. That and driving that slow is pretty much a disturbance to the traffic around you if you're in a heavily populated area.
mmangels22 04-07-2010, 04:52 PM Yes I have gotten 20 mpg before, but not average driving.
gunnut 04-07-2010, 05:24 PM everyday average is around 17 or 18.went to florida last year and did 22.78,fact is all trucks are set up different and driven different
2006blackmax 04-07-2010, 06:23 PM What RPM do try to keep it at ?
I have a 2006 LLY, I've been told to keep it under 2K,Best in town is 16MPG so far but it's stock w/35's
Donovan 04-07-2010, 06:30 PM 2.50 for diesel!!!!! Not in my socialist state!

knaffie 04-07-2010, 08:26 PM Its usually like $3.00 right now. But when I cross into Canada, you can get this gas without paying taxes. Its a pretty sweet deal.
