I currently have a 2500 crew Duramax, I am considering going to a Dually with all these incentives.
Those who have stepped up like this, give me some feedback!
Fuel milieage?
Ride quality?
Power difference with more turning components?
I have several large trailers that move around alot with my current truck and feel this would help by stepping up?
Thanks for any help!!:ro)

Any trailer is going to be more stable with a dually. How much weight do you haul?

Love the way mine handles the load- the 2500 was fine but the dually is better yet. Fuel milage is very dependant on my right foot and the load/speed my gn empty@ 75 will get me 10/12 the fifth wheel @75 will get me 8/9, 65 9/10/11 all depending on wind.

I currently have a 30' enclosed trailer that wanders alot and am thinking of going to a gooseneck instead which it would be nice to have an 8' box for.
I have freinds that tell me the miliage is slightly less but not significant, is this true?
Thanks.

I have towed with a 6 ltr 2500HD and now with my dually. - NO comparison. Towing the TT with the dually I get 10-13MPG and no longer notice any sideway push from any trucks - and I am not using spring bars or any anti-sway crap. The 2500HD was stable but not anything like the dually. When towing with the 2500HD the mileage was 5mpg. I now get 16 in the city and 19~20 on the highway empty. All is good! Buy the dually - you won't be sorry! oh yeah, 156,000 miles and just breaking in.):h

You will be going from about 9200 GVW to 11,400 GVW. Haul all your stuff legal like!

Ride will be slightly stiffer when lite with some elevated tire slap on expansion joints in the road (a Dooley thing!)

Loaded it is much more stable. Pulling trailers, no comparison! Dooley don't move much laterally. Really notice the stabillity in cross wind and rutted pavement!

Fuel MPG's will run around 15-17 lite. Loaded will vary acording to load and road conditions but likely equivelent to the 2500.

You will have to get used to bubble butt truck parking at the Wal-Mart!

Good Luck!

Milage may be a bit down due to the rolling resistance of two more tires. I took the outers off on a trip to Phoenix last year and picked up 2 mpg running empty.

on edit:
Pros:
Much greater load carrying capacity,
Higher stability (lots of sidewall means less flex)
Greater safety (if you suffer a rear blowout you still have round rubber on the road)
Looks

Cons:
At tire change time you get to buy 6 vs. 4
With custom wheels tire rotation becomes a real drag
Changing tire size becomes more problematic.
Rear tire wear becomes a factor if you do a lot of in town (lots of turns wears the crap out of the wide tire set)
That bubble butt is harder to get into parking slots
You have to learn to take corners a bit wider (or risk buying a new tire due to a trashed sidewall)
As stated b4 a bit of a mileage hit.
Looks (different strokes for different folks)

All of the above has been personally tested by me, your results may vary…

Now that must've looked weird:eek:

You should have taken the two inside tires off, then it wouldn't have looked so weird.

lt looks much stranger with the inners off than the outers from the rear. I tried it first and from the back it looked like a spider getting ready to pounce. From the side it did look better with the outters on, and probably a bit more stable too.

I towed a 37 foot 5th wheel, 11,700 dry weight...GVW 12,500# back and forth across the country.. the 2500 HD did a great job...I got 20 MPG empty and 11.3 mpg towing the big ole girl

Up graded to the 3500 DRW D/A and have only towed the big ole girl for about 200 miles....My mileage is not that great at this point...getting 15 MPG without towing. did not check it on the short trip with the 5er.....Have about 2000 miles on the truck....Hope it will improve about the 30K miles point like the 2500 did....

Overall I feel more comfortable in the 1ton...it rides great towing or not towing.

Happy driving

Contrary to popular myth, the real difference in a dually as to stability is in tire roll over rather than what happens in the suspension! Tire roll over can be substantial when you're maxing out a GVW on a pickup! I've used both and I'd only buy a dually if your are carrying substantial weight because rear end ride and parking suffer! With a big 5er or a big camper you should have a dually. I lost the air in an inside rear tire running 12,300 lbs. and didn't know it until I was getting of I-40 and noticed it felt weird! With a moderate sized trailer a 3/4 ton will do and is easier to live with unhitched! Braking is better with a dually because of the smaller tires! I've never seen a substantial difference in fuel use between duallies or 4 x 4's in diesels! There's more mpg difference from truck to truck for whatever reason! Wind resistance is the biggest issue in mileage when pulling/carrying an RV! Next comes weight! A heavy foot always applies! My '02 crew cab 4 x4 dually gets approx 10 mpg pulling a 30' travel trailer at 70 mph. With a 11'6" heavy Lance Camper is gets about 13.5 at 70 mph. Unladened it gets about 18 mph at 70 mph! Around town I don't check, it's too depressing!

Have fun!
